Funny under the new rules the poetry hubs appear to be under the gun!

the following hubs are in the main my poems but it seems that if some action doesn't follow by 25th March they will be unpublished because they don't fit the current mould!...a poem is not like text it takes a concept and enlarges the subject matter in few words and the fewer the better sometimes! plus it does actually take time to write a poem  they are not whipped up in minutes...cogitation is usually the order of the day....
the poems in question listed are are as follows:
From The Earth - Cameos - Short Poems
    Time Honoured - Poem
    Dead Fox Runs... Poem
    Near Death
    Port Campbell Sand - Poem
    Poem: Fruits De Mer
Stories About Lions including Christian The Lion Videos - Beautiful & Unusual Friendships That Last Forever!
    A Most Unfortunate Wedding Reception
Learn How To Dance - From A Young Male's Perspective
who thinks that poems should suffer this way or that this is because of the scarcity of words and the subsequent relationship with the dollar....

Has hubpages told you they will be unpublished?

      What was the reasons?

hi lyndre    no longer do I see the messages telling me that they will unpublished by hubpages on March 25 if I don't remove/reduce  links to commercial sites and also change placement of ads ...which I did last night so the problem has been solved I guess...although one or two hubs in the edit stage were trying to direct me to press the unpublish button now despite me removing the offending links, maybe that had something to do with the no. of words involved......cheers and thanks for your comment...cheers

pleased for you sofs....maybe that was the case..have removed most of them now so all should be ok...cheers

You must have at least 50 words in the hub for each amazon product - the three I checked all had 2 products, but the hub Fruits De Mar does not have the required 100 words.

hi wilderness, thanks for your help - the Fruits De Mer now has 131 words so I should be ok with it...added some inconsequential words to bring it up the required word count...cheers

Hi Annie, I have poems on here too, and they're quite short. I had notice to cut down the number of Amazon Ads on a couple of them, but they were fine once I'd done that. The new rule is 50 words of text per Amazon Ad. Poetry is not being hounded (so far as I know) for any other reason, although some hubhoppers weren't too sure how to treat poetry, and there have been a couple of threads about it here on the forums. I read a response from Paul Deeds which was quite positive towards poetry. I f you think you might have been unfairly flagged by over-eager hubhoppers, I would seriously appeal!

Thanks again Amanda - I went through last night and took out a few ads at each site but haven't checked so far this morning...will do...let you know maybe it was just over eager flaggers(?) or maybe I did have too many ads ....cheers

This one is now fine - need to check the rest - I just halved everything or completely removed Amazon as I have had a cent from them but been paid a couple of times by ebay....live and learn I guess...thanks again Amanda...cheers

that would be "have not had a cent from them"

Ajcor, over-eager flaggers can't unpublish your Hubs or even cause you to get a warning.

All flagging does is notify a moderator to look at your Hubs.  It's the moderator who decides.

You must have 50 words per advertised product, as Wilderness says.  Have you considered putting two or three related poems on one Hub?  They'd probably do better, too, because Google likes longer Hubs better.

I've done this. I have two poems in one hub. Because, when I put only one poem, it warned me(long before new rules applied) that it would be substandard and could be unpublished if left as it was. wink

Thanks Marisa Wright - I actually did put a number of haiku type poems together in "From The Earth - Cameos - Short Poems" and funnily enough this hub comes in with the third highest rating of all my poems...not that any of them rate all that highly being in a form that basically does not appeal to all readers..cheers

Well, that just proved my point, didn't it?

Why not consider consolidating some of your others, you may be pleasantly surprised by the result.

I think may just do it with the not so long poems ...thanks for the tip....just didn't realise the effect until your comment caused me to take a better look...cheers and thanks again

This whole rule change is a fiasco. I had over 100 hubs that need to be revised. I'm not sure how many of them are poetry hubs.  When I started the site, I felt it was more pure to just have the poem, and nothing else except maybe a photo or two.

But changes kept happening, so then I had to start adding a paragraph with each poem, then more narrative, and more links, and more photos and more stuff.  Soon, a small poem like a haiku gets lost in all the clutter. I've always struggled to keep poetry on Hubpages and I know others have too. But I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the next change down the pike said 'no poetry allowed'.  I feel like this site is dying.  Soon all that will be left is the hard core professional content writers as the rest of us get squeezed out. And for what? Money and worship of Google's golden calf. Bah.

See this post from HP Gen Mgr, Paul Deeds: http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/70209?p … ost1530525

Poetry is fine. You just need to categorize it correctly.

Over-eager flaggers have nothing to do with it. Even if they flagged your hub, it has no impact on what eventually happens. That's all up to the HP team.

I thought the team said that poetry wasn't held to any "word count" standards. If that's the case, then there's only two things I can think of why your poems might have been flagged.

    1) Too many Amazon capsules. You're only allowed one product for each 50 words on the hub.

    2) Miscategorization. Your "From the Earth" hub is categorized under Creative Writing, but doesn't seem apparent on the face that it is, in fact, creative writing or a poem. If I were to give that a quick glance without really reading it, I might think it was a too-short hub.

If #1 isn't the cause of the problems, I would email team@hubpages.com and get a dialog going with them about it. Sounds like there might be some errors here.

I have seen some poetry hubs with pictures and vivid descriptions of where the poet got the inspiration for the poem. The entire concept was most captivating. The hubs that have one poem without other text may need reworking, in my opinion. Anyway, I don't write poetry very often, so it is just an idea to keep the poetry rolling along.

All ideas are welcome brakel2 - I have done written a small intro.  a couple of times but just a short sentence, nothing too wordy but maybe I go back and include a little enhancement....cheers and thanks

I have - after a few days - gone back to review my Fruits De Mer to check whether I still have a warning about the poem - I had taken off all the ebay and Amazon links and written a few more words to bring the hub up to requisite 131 words and guess what - still have the warning....so much for the 100 words or even the 1 ad per 50 words rule ....so ...
