      Pearldiver,

Excuse me? Slag off the site? You're making zero sense. I posted here because I'm wondering if this place is still worth spending my time writing interesting hubs to earn money due to the Google algorithm issue. I don't understand how this registers as "slagging off the site" in your brain?

Secondly, I'm really disappointed in the lack of helpful replies. Is my original question not a legit question?

        Are you a troll?
You've been here 3 months, have zero Hubs, and post such a question.
Makes little sense to me. What are you up to?

I didn't see your original post but it is a valid question that you mentioned in your response to pearldiver.

The way I see it, if I am going to spend time backlinking content to get it to rank (which is what needs to be done on HubPages in many cases now), why not backlink my own content?

That said, I still think Hubpages is useful for backlinks, especially if you can turn them do-follow with a high Hubber score.

Why does everyone equate number of hubs with anything???  Never understood that.

Um, maybe because hubs are how we make money here? roll
This is not a link farm. It is a content-driven writing site.
You wanna write here? Or do you wanna talk about writing here?

mighty mom- i think you will find that the info.... used this site to post duplicated content and it has been wiped= our best action is not to reply to posts so they die quickly

You're probably right. And I think ProductinfoSource and SPomposello are one of the same.

            LOL...

Here come the zealots.  Say anything remotely negative (true or not) and get flamed.  No, we are not the same and no, none of my content was pulled down.

The fact of the matter is that HubPages (pre-slap) was great for getting content ranked almost immediately without much work at all.  Post-slap, hubs need much more attention (backlinking) to rank.

My point stands: Weather you like it or not, the point is valid - if someone is going to have to spend time backlinking anyways, why not build out your own site and backlink it?

And again, what does the number of hubs that one publishes have to do with how knowledgeable he/she is?  Many Hubbers use posting IDs to hide there niches.  I, for one, went by the name MYPOSTINGID here in the forums.

^ Never a truer word spoken.

Everything you've said in this thread makes perfect sense to me.  Everybody else = just toeing the line.

Anybody who's expecting HP to return to its pre-slap greatness, ever, is most likely in for some disappointment.  But as you said, it still has its uses.

Hubpages still has a score of 6 on Google. Unless your website already has a high score (a 6 is high), it is still worthwhile publishing on Hubpages. For some niches, you need hundreds if not thousands of links to score this high. I have a crochet site with over 2000 links and it still doesn't make the first page. The top site has over 10,000.

It all depends on what you are writing about.  For most Hubpage articles 5 or 6 links will get you to the bottom of the first page if not higher. I say most. It depends on what you are writing about.

                Barbara Kay...

I agree in some aspects, although PR doesn't necessarily equate to SERP rankings.

I target very low competition products.  Before the slap, over 80% of my product hubs ranked on the first page of Google within 48 hours WITHOUT any linking whatsoever.  Most of my competition consists of PR0-1 pages with 1-5 backlinks at most.

The product pages on my own domains take a bit longer obviously but if I have to put in backlinking work anyway, I'd rather do it for my own site rather than build up someone else's (HubPages).

My hubs are still doing somewhat well in the search engines. I agree with you also since at your own site you get 100% from Adsense.

I like to write about anything and everything, so I don't have sites for everything. Hubpages work well for the pages that I don't have sites to match.

              Yes and yes!'

Besides, who's supposed to take anything you say seriously; you have a Hubber Score of 19 and not a Hub to your name - neither name. Pathetic.

What's the sense of 165 Hubs if the Hubber is 'no follow'?

And guess what? That's only a snap shot of what once was. You're content was, indeed, wiped.

Simple search turns up 2690 results in Google for me.

    I think it's a valid question.

Maybe I am wrong to say this, but in many ways I think for someone serious about making a lot of money, their own site is the way to go.

For a start, you have something you can sell on at a latter date.

Beyond that, I think that after the slap you will need to do more work to get a page ranking, BUT, I think it is still easier to get a hub ranking than an equivalent page in a new website.

May be its like living in a rented house vs building/buying your own home. I read somewhere that renting a home upto 5 years is more profitable (cheaper), but in the longer run its always better to have your own home.

    Lets get something straight here.

    1) I am not posing as someone else on this site. This is my only name/profile.

    2) the past 3 months I've been here, I've been working two jobs with very little days off. However, I have written 4 articles which are going to be my first 4 hubs when I get the time to edit them soon.

I'm just wondering if its still worth spending time here due to the big shakeup with google recently or if I should just make my own site. Perhaps I could do both, write the articles here, post a paragraph or two from each on my site and backlink so the rest could be read on hubpages?
