   A WIFE told yesterday how she became the world's youngest gran - at just 23.
   
   Mum-of-two Rifca Stanescu was 12 when she had her first child Maria.
   
   She urged the girl not to follow her example - but Maria gave birth to son Ion while only 11.
   
   Rifca had married jewellery seller Ionel Stanescu when she was 11 and he was 13.

      I interviewed a 24 years old grandmom in the Southern Phils seven years ago as part of a national survey about fertility of the youth subjects. She gave birth when she was 12 and her daughter gave birth at twelve as well. In that ethnic group, they marry young and have minimal contraception or not at all (they use herbal if so).

   she is part of the Gypsy culture..i do think they live difficult lives..but I thought the article brought up an alarming trend...girls are conceiving earlier and earlier...

         Absolutely. Child marriages still happen some places, but they were very common in a lot of places up to just a few decades ago. It was still the norm in rural India, for example, just a single decade ago. The global trend is definitely away from this kind of thing, not towards it.

   My aim is to be "World's Oldest Grandma".  Based on how old that 23-year-old grandmother looks, I'm thinking being the world's oldest grandma is a better way to fend off aging.    Watch for me in a tabloid in about - oh - 60 years.

   Dang, and here I felt really weird being a grandma at 23 -- to my stepdaughter's kids! All the older ladies at the craft shows look at me very strangely when they're all talking about their grandkids and I chime in about mine, aged 14, 11, and 2. I can't imagine having biological grandkids right now, that's for sure.

   Boy, this sounds like a crazy world. In some parts of the world the culture is so different to ours - that it is actually normal to wed at an early and give birth to children, but do they really understand what they are doing. Could they provide adequate and quality care for their children. Thought for food!

   Where are the parents at that these children are having sex at 10 and 11 years of age. I don't know how it works in Romania, but that wouldn't EVER fly in my household.
