I really think HubPages has the greatest, kindest, most helpful and ethical staff members that any website could ask for.  I can barely imagine the difficulties they are going through these days what with Panda, the new guidelines, the new HPads program, and dealing with the turmoil all of this is stirring up within the community.  I don't envy any of you, and I do appreciate the thankless job you are doing.

Ditto, but without the exclamation points (I'm just not that kind of girl). smile

I keep wondering if HP will have to trim their staff, the staff they've been building in the good google times. It doesn't seem they've had to do so yet.

I think this is a great company, heading for a good future in these rocky Internet seas. Kind of makes me think of the reality show Deadliest Catch, where blocks of ice fall on fishermen giving them concussions, crew get swept off the boat, and all for the purpose of bringing in the catch.

Risk taking at its best. Good job, HP.

Actually, we're currently hiring more mod staff, since we are stretched beyond thin at the moment.  Getting and keeping HubPages clean is a top priority, no matter what.

Thank you all for your support.  I'm sick, working from home with a fever, and this cheered me up a bit.  smile

This is good news, Maddie (not about your fever, of course). I imagine HP looked at its risks and opportunities a long time ago, and planned for contingencies such as this current convolution. You've got my support. Now, do you guys have that ten-year, 100-year plan in place? smile

Hey, Maddie - if you see this -

I looked under "Jobs" and only saw the Devop, Engineer, etc. - not the mods positions.  Are those jobs full-time only?  I have some great relatives in San Fran, but not sure whether they are open for a full-time position.  Where can I/they get info about what you are looking for?

I sincerely wish that I was as capable of the same blind loyalty as some of you.  But with HP staff deliberately closing a thread earlier, to stop hubbers discussing something that was of importance to us all.  I'm not.

I may be risking my account by saying this, but that was bang out of order.  But hey, let's all teach the world to sing, in perfect harmony...

    1. wilderness profile image95
wildernessposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Was that the thread started by some spammer?  And then someone else quoted them?  So that it all had to be shut down to get rid of the spam?

I wouldn't call that bang out of order, but rather thank them for the effort.

I also might suggest that you look around the forums a bit; you have a bunch of hubs copied on 68articles dot com; there is a thread on the problem and sometimes a little harmony can help...

^ You certainly do jump to a lot of wild conclusions, without having any idea about that of which you speak.

I was referring to the SpaceyGracey thread.  Which has since been edited with a very different response, from the one that was there earlier.

And as for the 68articles, as far as I can see, none of them rank, they're of no interest to me.

        1. wilderness profile image95
wildernessposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Ah.  My error, then.  I caught the spaceygracey thread late, skimmed it, and found nothing of huge interest.  HP seemed to have made a bad error, but is trying to correct it.  Certainly nothing to indicate that HP does not have a hard working, caring crew of considerable value.

68 articles do not rank.  Yet.  Given time they very well may.  Hopefully the concerted action by those affected can deny them that time.

Or you can sit back and let others do the work.

^  It was certainly of 'huge interest' to SpaceyGracey, and to all of those concerned earlier.  And while I appreciate that the HP staff are very hardworking, and appreciated.  I don't respect the fact that positive threads (before I arrived), such as this one, are encouraged to bloom.  While threads that might potentially take a more negative bent, are quickly 'closed to reply'.  That doesn't sit right with me.  Sorry.

As for the 68articles thing, again, my apologies, but you'll get no thanks from me.  If you choose to chase your own tail.  That's down to you.

Mrvoodoo, believe it or not, I actually agree with you in the need for openness in discussing problems, even when the discussion is negative.  It has seemed to me (my opinion, I realize) that there has been an enormous dose of that over the past few weeks, and with good reason.  There are problems here and in other places on the web that affect nearly all of us negatively, and so we react and discuss things negatively.  The staff here are at the heart of working to solve the problems as far as they touch HP, as well as to take care of this community of writers and our emotional ups and downs, and so they are likely to receive the brunt of our negativity, both justified and not.

I don't really think that closing a thread after it has been active for 11 hours ("quickly" closed?) with 86 posts means that it is being squelched and that this one with its 23 posts is being encouraged to bloom. (Five of the posts here are joking off-topic and four are the conversation between you and wilderness, leaving 14 posts on the original topic.)

I too saw the first response from staff before the SG thread was closed and I saw how quickly that response was pulled (in under 5 minutes, I believe) for additional review.  I was sorry to see the first response, but it was encouraging in a sobering kind of way that the staff is/was working to be even-handed in upholding the standards here.

When the second response appeared, that actually raised my opinion of the staff - specifically Maddie, in this case.  It is not easy for someone to go back and publicly admit that they have been wrong.

I don't mind you bringing your negativity here, but I don't agree that it's inappropriate to express appreciation for people who perform a generally thankless job day in and day out.  Everyone needs a cheerleader occasionally.

Totally agree, Aficionada.  I'm constantly impressed with the HubPages team, on so many levels.  I am not nearly as impressed with the staff of the other writing platforms I've experienced.  I trust our team, it's the main reason I will always consider HP my first "home".

    @Aficionada

I appreciate your position, and your positivity.  It's true that I am of a negative (or perhaps realistic) temperament.  And I'm as relieved as anybody else that Maddie was able to resolve the problem. (while I'm sure that the feeling isn't mutual, I have a soft spot for Maddie, she usually plays fair.  And I hope she feels better soon.).

However, what I meant by 'quickly closed', was not the duration of time following the OP, but the duration of time following the initial staff statement.  i.e it was closed immediately.  Suggesting that they knew it wasn't going to be popular.  But rather than deal with it.  They deprived people of the right to respond.  That's what irks me.

Anyways, it's late here now, and ultimately, my opinion means little.  And no doubt Relache will be along shortly, to remind me that according to the TOS, this is a privately owned website, and as such, HP can do whatever they want. big_smile

So on that note.  I'm going to bed.

    Best wishes. smile

I wondered about the closing the thread quickly thing, and then thought enough had been said openly.  After all we don't need a debate about exactly what happened to Spacey and neither does Spacey.

I thought Maddie's reply was pretty much spot on and I'm not just saying that in the forlorn hope of EVER WINNING ONE OF THE COMPETITIONS.

No,seriously I'm not just saying that.  It was a long frustrating wait for Spacey but at least HP staff came with an apology and an "on it" message.

Some places you don't get that.

So although it sounds like an ATTEMPT TO GET SOME FAVOURABLE DIRECTION IN TERMS OF MY COMPETITION ENTRIES.. it's not really.

    +1... eventually.. to HP.
