A change in traffic strategy

OK, it's been nearly 2 months since Panda and my weekly emails from HP have shown a steadily decreasing volume of traffic (although the adsense graphs don't always agree).  It's time for a change of strategy.

I've never been one to backlink; I would rather write hubs.  Nevertheless several hubbers have indicated that in their opinion backlinks are more necessary than ever.  So, beginning tomorrow, I intend to backlink like crazy.

Problem: I don't know how or where.  How about some suggestions from those that already know these things?  I'm not really interested in writing a 1000 word essay to incorporate a backlink or two - with 100+ hubs that just isn't practical.  I need some thoughts about where to leave some quick and easy backlinks.  With only 2 or 3 hours a day to work on it, and figuring at least 10 backlinks for each of 70 or so hubs I don't have an hour for each one.

Should I work on my better producing hubs first, or those that have never gotten much traffic?  What about sales hubs - is it reasonable to link to those?

I've signed up for shetoldme and redgage tonight and have already put some on excerptz (getting a few views there and a couple of clicks but no referrals yet).  I have about 80 already on Xomba from a few months ago.  Are these reasonable sites?  What others might I look at?

    HELP!

I usually post in comments smile but if you do 3 backlinks a day, you will grow your b-links without stressing yourself out wink

I have considered joining a few forums or posting in comments to someone's articles, but giving only links to my work would be spamming (or so I see it) and probably not allowed.

The problem with a few links per day is that after a month I will have just one for each hub.  That doesn't sound particularly exciting - should I not at least try for a dozen or so?  I can't do hundreds, of course, but do you think that just one or two will have hardly any effect?

You don't want 1000 links to one hub - that will look like you are - spamming? hmm but a few links to different hubs/day sprinkled all over the web wink would look more natural, don't you think? big_smile O - and 3x30=X wink

That's what I'm aiming for, I think.  A link to 10 different hubs, maybe repeat tomorrow on a different site.  Then pick on 10 different hubs before moving back to the first 10.  As you say, spread them out over time and sites for each hub.

Realistically, I'll never get 1000 links to one hub without hiring it done, and I'm not real interested in doing that.  But 10 links per hub - that maybe I can do in a couple of months or so.

No, not exactly. Since hubpages is so large, there is nothing bad in getting a few hundred links for a specific hub.

Many of my hubs have had several hundred links going to them, but they have been nearly all internal links from hubpages.  Is this what you refer to?

If not, I do not understand what the size of HP has to do with anything.  In theory any top hub will have many organic links pointing to it (never works for me, though! smile ) but that would be a function of the popularity of the hub, not the size of HubPages.  Or am I missing something here?

For example, if you have a blog with only 4 pages and getting 1000 links to a page, it is risky surely to be devaluated completely by Google.

But, since hubpages has over a million pages indexed, it would look natural to have a hub lots of backlinks from outside (not especially inner hubpages links). Hubpages has still much competition power due to size.

There are many hubpages pages which were not affected by Panda because of large number of one way outer backlinks pointing to them.

And, it looks like we don't have any other option after Panda strike. Backlinks are life saver.

Plus, Yahoo and Bing give backlinks much more importance than Google does. I have websites which dominate Yahoo top rankings but nowhere to be found in Google.

I hope I could explain my ideas smile

I have a list of some of the link sites I use in one of my recent hubs about writing online.
