Flagged Hubs

I am not sure as to the specific reason why my hubs were flagged, but I revised them and am waiting for them to be reviewed. It is kind of an irk in my side, because I think that the reason was because of too many tags.

I am pretty sure I know who flagged them too, because before they commented I was not flagged. Then, suddenly after they comment I get two of my hubs from that series flagged. I'm surprised that they didn't flag the other two.

I always use the tag suggester so, it seems a little odd that my hubs would be flagged for this reason. I mean, I'm using the tags that THEY suggested, right?

I think you mean moderated, not flagged.

If someone "flags" your Hub, all that happens is that a HubPages moderator is alerted to look at your Hub and make sure it's OK.  If they see a problem, the moderator can unpublish it.

Wrong. It's a common misunderstanding though.

The tag suggestion tool, like the link suggestion tool, is an automated thing.  It's based on frequently used words in your text, so it often suggests words that are too general.  You're supposed to be selective and only pick the tags that are highly relevant to your Hub.

If you've accepted everything and ended up with a lot of vague tags, you'll not only have far too many tags, they'll be irrelevant too and not good for your Hub.

Great! I just learned something. Thank you. I will review my hubs.

    Keywords/Tags base:

9-15 keywords/tags for articles up to 1500 words.
up to 40 keywords/tags for articles over 1500 words.

That is directly from Maddie Ruud(Staff Member).

As for who flagged your hubs? It shouldn't matter who did it. But, you should have received an email telling you why your hubs were flagged.

How do hubbers calculate word length on Hubpages?

You don't calculate word length. You can input your writing or write from a word program or notepad or some other place and it will track the number of words.

Not to mention, you can write a hub and give it a few hours to settle, then go back to it, click on stats- click on HubMetrics and it will tell you how many words are in the hub. smile

Also, then that should be posted with the little yellow warning that is given. Otherwise, I am not going to deleted my tags one-by-one just to see what the magic numbers is, (that is to say- what number makes them disappear).

If Maddie says that the magic number is 9-15, okay. Well, now I am going to have to go back to my articles and make sure that they have the proper word length, AND have the right amount of tags. Don't mind if I am a little bitter, (I have over 30 articles and very little time to do all of that).

How do you know that they were flagged at all?  Moderators continually look at hubs, both old and new, without anyone flagging them.  Nor can flaggers actually do anything except bring a hub to the attention of the moderators for HP review.

Because in the report they sent it said that they were flagged. Have you received a report saying that your hubs were flagged? If so, it says on it why they are sending it. I was impressed with the report, it was very professionally written but, I was still upset that my hub was flagged.

The problem has been worked out. Thank you for your concerns though.

Good - I'm glad you got it solved.

I have to wonder about the wording on your notice, though.  I can't conceive of a valid reason for HP to tell you that someone (besides a moderator) flagged your hub.  Knowing that a hubber flagged my hub for any reason wouldn't concern me at all; knowing that a moderator flagged it for any reason would make me sit up and work on the problem.

I suppose knowing that many hubbers were flagging my hubs would concern me (why are they doing that?  Is something wrong with that hub?) but not if there were one or two.

I'm sorry to hear that.  Some time ago, the word "flagging" was used to refer to both Hubber flagging and moderating.  I thought the staff had agreed to stop using the word 'flag' to refer to moderator actions, to reduce misunderstandings.  Sounds like old habits die hard!
