Yes meditation as is popular today in the sense of concentrating one's mind on breathing while sitting in a particular posture was first taught by the Buddha and its variations later developed in Hinduism and other religions. Remember Yoga is NOT meditation in its purest form, only later was meditation introduced in it.

meditation is part of yoga...yoga is more than meditation...i think you are not aware about yoga...it doesnot start with meditation...coming to buddha...well i am big fan of buddha but giving buddha credit for something which was part of subcontinent culture since days of indus vallery civilization is not what buddha taught...

...meditation was part of subcontinent culture since long...remains of indus valley civilization have had meditative postures...so it is wrong to say buddha taught that...buddha did take that forward...that is right...

Meditation or praying is part of every revealed religion; Buddha also did it. It is not necessary that one should be an ascetic to practice it; though Buddhists present it like this.

Meditation & praying is not the same thing. Both are different & designed for different purpose.

Sorry but this is just not accurate. The Buddha may well have developed a particular approach to meditation (mindfulness) but also drew on existing meditation teaching in India, ie the jhanic model.

Please quote from Buddha that he started the meditation; it has always been with the religion and as such Buddha also did it. The scource of all enlightened persons called prophets messengers is ONE-TRUE-GOD; hence the similarities.

In this sense Zoroaster,Buddha, Krishna, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad and Mirza Ghulam Ahmad 1835-1908 are all borthers in one faith; they all meditated in praying.

Oh please the Buddha had a few masters who taught him various meditation techniques. Meditation has been talked about for thousands of year before the Buddha.

He was also introduced to Hatha Yoga under a master.

The Buddha was a Hindu , Hinduism is a much older way of life , the Buddha reiterated this eternal  truth.

Later he left all those practices and gained enlightened and so said the middle path. Even Guru Nana was against this practice of such ardous yoga for enlightenment.

Yoga mean union or yolk- oneness with god ,same as meditation.

I have to disagree that meditation was first introduced by Buddha. Dont forget that he was a disciple to many other Gurus of that time who actually taught Gautama the ways of enlightenment.

Meditation is much older than Buddhism, you need to research more.
