Hi everyone, I had a quick question about commercial hubs. I have made a hub where I advertise a website, but I am not an affiliate and in no way profit from the link. Would my hub be commercial or non commercial? Thanks in advance for the feedback.
Hubs are generally commercial anyway because of ads if you choose to have them, like Amazon, etc. If you are advertising another website, then's it's commercial, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. We all do it- well most of us.
In a related question (and I know this may be a stupid, related, question):
I think (if I recall for all of them) I've always selected "commercial" because I've assumed that, because they ads on them, that makes them "commercial". Am I completely off by selecting "commercial"?
Another reason I guess I've thought of them as "commercial" is that, as a writer, I'm my "own, little, one-person, business".
Is this way off too?
Lisa, that is smart thinking. I have never thought of it that way, as every hub I make is some form of self promotion :-)
Sounds like you've got it all figured out to me, Lisa.
You can basically look at it two ways, I guess:
- One way is to say that it's commercial because it's got links and information about some type of business, product, service, etc. that you're trying to get traffic and attention to with intent of making money for yourself.
- A second way is that it could be deemed commercial is because you wrote the Hub with intent on running ads around it so that you can have the opportunity to earn revenue from it once it begins to get traffic.
Both of these would be good definitions of being a 'commercial Hub'.
Now, if for some reason you just wanted to write a Hub on a non-commercial topic for fun and didn't want ads around it, that's when you can choose to make it ad-free.
The only effect the commercial check box has is when it's not checked you can set the ad level to none, low, or medium. When it is checked the ad level must remain on high.
If you are going to use the high ad level anyway, it's fine to just leave the commercial box checked.
Thanks everyone for all your replies. I think I have it all figured out now. :-)
