I've always made sure my pictures rank well for my keywords. This gives me traffic from people who use Google's image search.
I noticed that the past few days my traffic has gotten bigger on my sites but I could not see where my linking was.
You will notice that on many search's Google has 3 or 4 images right at the top even in web search.
I noticed today that for many of my keywords my picture was showing in those images.
So, using good image SEO does more than get them rank well in image search. It even does well in web search.
That's good exposure -- I always notice the pics in Google search results.
If you have time to give a pointer -- how do you make sure your pictures rank well for your keywords?
I understand about using keywords in the caption, but it sounds as though you mean something else. How do you use good image SEO?
I was away from HP for a long time and am learning from scratch.
Well I'm talking about images you use in your own websites. Reason being you can't do everything you should do with images in a Hub. Basically the steps are:
1. Make a keyword named folder
2. Name the image your keyword
3. Use _ or - to break up the words
4. Upload image to the folder
5. Use both your title and alt tags.
That's it!
I am finding the same, many of the photographs on my sites pull in their own traffic.
:edit: one site is outranked by a photograph on it ! although admittedly I have yet to optimise it
Thank you. I'm building a website, so this is timely advice. I appreciate the help.
Use of _ for break up of the words is not good. Bings suggest to use only hyphens for breaking of words, because most of the search engines will see your _ separated words as one long word. Google also loves more the hyphens instead of underscores.
Well I use them and almost all my images for my keywords are #1 or in the top 10. I'll stick to what works for me.
edit: Actually scratch that, I almost always use the hyphens, not the underscore.
Using Microsoft Windows Photo Gallery, on every windows PC to my knowledge - is great for adding tags to photos. The controls are on the right side of the screen to where the photo appears. Add 5 tags to each photo and make them niche keywords and they ought to serve you well. And add your url in the bottom caption too if you like. Hell, it works for me. Cheers!
Great forum. I never read about this tip anywhere else. Thanks for the advice.
When you do an image search on google and click on an image, it actually takes you to the webpage where image is placed. The actual page is shown faded in the background, while the image is resized. If you click on the cross at the upper right of the resized image, actual webpage is shown.

Everybody talks about keywords, but what about Google image search? I try to rank for as many image searches as I can. Most of my keywords I rank on the first page of Google images as well as bing.To do so, you need to host the images on your own server. Then store them in a keyword named folder....

Yes, yes, I know. Research good keywords, write quality content, etc etc.But practically speaking, how do you actually drive traffic? I'm looking for concrete, specific answers instead of the generic advice everyone always gives.* Do you post to certain sites?* Do you post on niche/content-related...

But I am wondering why there seems to be competition in the real google world and no competition showing for it in the external keyword tool world?
