Revenue Potential

   Looking at 'stats', can anyone tell me what decides the 'Revenue Potential' for a hub, please?

      That is only an estimation..it has been known that hubs that have just $ have fared better than$$$$  in terms of revenue. I wouldn't give it too much importance!

      The topic determines the revenue estimation.
      
      I've seen postings saying that changing/adding tags will realtime change the number of dollar signs.

   If a topic with high revenue potential ($$$$) is least searched for, it may not fetch any income.

   The estimate of revenue potential is from what I can tell, based on the competition for keywords related to the topic of your hub. But revenue potential is meaningless without considering actual traffic and click through - you can have a hub on  topic that does not have a lot of advertiser interest but if it gets a lot of traffic and clicks then you may make a lot more money from that hub, than from a more commercial hub for which there is a lot of advertiser competition (and therefore higher paying ads) if that hub gets little traffic.
   
   I agree with the advice of other posters that you should not worry to much about hubpage's revenue predictions and just write good hubs about things that interest you. Some of my best performing hubs have surprised me. For example, I wrote one hub about whether ants are intelligent (hardly a commercial subject) only to have cracked.com link to me and send traffic through the roof, so this little hub ended up making money when I only wrote it out of personal interest. Just goes to show you never know.

      Good question -- I'm glad you asked that, Trish. I'm getting back to hubbing after a long time away freelancing. Each time I come to Hubpages, I hit information overload. I've been trying to figure out directions to take post-Panda, learn more about seo, long-tail keywords, quality backlinks and what's effective for producing income -- I now feel clueless. I've written hundreds of articles for online clients and I'm at a loss.
      
      I've been mystified by those $ signs, too. Things I think might have potential don't seem to, and a couple hubs I wrote two years ago with no financial motive have more $ signs than topics I did keyword research for -- I'm just now learning keyword research...
      
      Quotations -- Love the detail about your ants intelligence hub getting a link from Cracked. That makes me so happy. I may need to take a break from analyzing and studying and wing out some hubs.
      
      I've tweaked some of my hubs from two years ago, and they're all performing better. I monetized them all for the first time. Steady traffic, with a trickle from Google, but not much of it. I want to make this into an income stream -- I'm impressed with Hubpages and I like it here.
