Ok, I know this is in the FAQ section (yes, I've read it), and I know there have been numerous forum posts...but here is a new wrinkle...
I wrote a Hub Mob article yesterday, and like most new hubs, it began down at a score of 50. No problem; I expected that.
What did surprise me, however, that has not happened before, is that following publication, and after several visits and positive comments, the hub actually fell a point to a score of 49.
I wonder if writing on a Hub Mob topic constitutes a "lack of original content" and gets that "penalty" (hmm..well, mabye not, as I've written other HM topics, and not had this happen)..
I've been writing on here long enough to have a pretty good handle on tags... (or maybe not??)
I'm not stressing over it--I'm merely curious and slightly puzzled.
Most of my hubs do that - uncluding the one that recently won a daily prize in the competition! So just a quirk in the system I think - it'll settle down eventually!
It's just backing up a little so as to get a better running start.
Some of mine do that as well then they climb back up.
I just wrote a lengthy hub, and found to my surprise that it dropped to 48 while waiting for admin approval, and now has gone back up to 49 and is still waiting approval. I don't think it's visible to anyone yet, so hopefully that's not a sign of disapproval from whichever moderator is looking at it!
Curious, but I think points and ranking systems are a little wobbly on every site where I've participated since the nineties, so it also feels rather homey.
This happened to me too the other day! I submitted a hub on the weekly hubmob topic and when I published it, it had a score of 50 then I went to bed. When I turned on my computer the next day, sonovagun! the hubscore went down to 48. I thought maybe someone had voted it down, but why? It was about gift ideas for women.. I thought someone must not like my gift ideas at all.. lol It took two days to get it back to 50 and upward. But that was rather disconcerting.
Just happened to me today, and not with Hubmob. I published a hub this afternoon and it is 48 as of tonight. Go figure.
The hubscore keeps fluctuating and sometimes some well performing hubs with great pageviews are found to be lagging behind some inferior quality hubs.
Since views count towards the score, I'm guessing that the fact many hubs are getting far fewer views will have a big impact, especially on a new hub.
What I find depressing is that Hubpages admin has not factored in something to neutralise this a little. I'm finding both hub scores and my personal score are dropping. It's very demotivating. I was about to try and start hub creating more seriously, then Panda happened, now this. I'm no longer sure I want to spend precious time on doing this if the payback is a falling score that will undermine my confidence even further.

I think hubpages will eventually factor in panda, and simply raise the scores so people feel better. The scores don't mean much so why would they not?
For many the hubscore and author score are a confidence matter. But it is learnt that beyond 75, they don't affect earnings.

Obsessing with mid 70's for hubscores and they are high traffic-what gives? Anyone help me out here?I have been working on each of my 50 hubs for days..I'm tired and worn out. I don't need to have a score of 90 for my hubs, but a decent 80 would be at least decent for the work ..these hubs...

As I have found today! I was led to believe that hubs of 75 and over were worth holding on to but obviously not! I just had one with a score of 81 getting the zzs!

I am sort of disappointed. I try to be active in the site as much as possible, comment on other people's hubs, help out in the forums, add new hubs once every two weeks, participate in the question and answer and my hubscore is slowly decreasing. Any advice from expert Hubbers on how to...

Why does it bug me so much when I see my hubscores going down? It is not supposed to matter, especially when it is just a point or 2 but it really gets to me.

I would like a better explanation of the Hub Score. I have a Hub that I uploaded on May 12th, it's ranked #2 on Google search results for its main keyword phrase, it's getting 175 visits per day sent by Google, but the Hub Score is only 78. Is that because someone at MTurk didn't like...
