If You Received An Email From Me--Please Read

   On May 18th someone hacked my email and sent a message to everyone in my contact list. My Attorney, The Capitol of my State..embarrassing.
   
   Everyone on Hubpages that's ever contacted me got one of the emails and they have been asking why.
   
   It has a link that may be dangerous to your computer (so Google says)
   
   Please know I would never do this..so just delete it.
   
   I'll be changing my hotmail acct.

      Deborah this happened to me but not from you, it was from another hubber. I knew straight away it was spam and just reported it then deleted. Haven't received one since. Don't be embarrassed, its not your fault.

      Not embarrassing at all - we know it's not your fault.  I seem to remember this happened to LMMartin, too.  It really sucks!   Changing your email address is such a hassle.

   I never got this type of mail - until I contacted a few people via Hubpages. My guess is that someone here is, or has been, aggressively collecting addresses.

   Thank for the responses, I appreciate it.
   
   It was sent from my hotmail acct on Live.com. So it had to have been hacked into.
   
   I'm not sure what he'll do next. But I have reported it to MSN

   That happened with my friend's hotmail account through his work computer, and his colleagues got e.mails from him (and others) that said someone was trapped in London and needed money urgently.  It was a disaster for him.
   
   I had it happen in my Hotmail but it was apparently only an ad type of thing.  Embarrassing, though, because besides sending e.mails to people I haven't been in touch with for years, my ex-husband got an e.mail "from me", opened it, and discovered it was a Viagra ad.  ( )  (He said, "I KNEW you wouldn't be sending that to me."  )

         Oops!  I'd like to clarify the reason he said that.      In fairness to the guy, it wasn't ego.  It was that he knew, of all the things we may still share, that kind of subject is one that's a  matter of our being returned to being awkward and polite strangers.    It's a good thing he knows me as well as he does. Otherwise he might have thought I was being a little on the "hint-y" side with that e.mail.     Ah - unthinkable on so many levels.

   This happened to me too a few months ago.  I just joined Amazon, so I thought Amazon was sending my contacts emails selling products because my friends told me, it was like a product but when you click on it, it was a computer virus.  Good thing all my friends had anti-virus.  OMG!  My brother told me to change my password immediately.  So far, nothing else has happened.  I noticed before my friends contacted me, that I was receiving notices that some of my emails were not delivered.  I thought it was odd because I did not send any emails, so I just ignored it.  I hope nothing else happens to you as well.  It's scary out there.

      The one I had showed up when I ran a scan as "non-malicious ad ware".  It was easy enough to remove it.  If you haven't scanned for ad ware and viruses you may want to make sure your anti-virus software is updated to present, and then run a scan to see if anything shows up.

   My gmail account got hacked recently, and the first I knew of it was when I tried to sign in, and there was a message from Google telling me that there was suspicious activity on my account and that they had stopped it. Can't remember what the box said to do, but I followed their instructions, then they texted me a PIN number that I had to input to get back in, plus change my password.
   Someone had tried to send something to all my contacts, but Google had blocked the lot.

   Hotmail is notorious for this - quite a few of my friends on hotmail send me spam emails and I have had some sent out from my hotmail account (which is still active but I haven't actually used for years). Much as we sometimes malign google I can't fault gmail.
