What technology couldn't you live without for a week?

   Hey everyone. Just trying to get some brainstorming ideas. So what would you miss the most?

      I wouldn't miss any of it.  I take vacations where I retreat back into the dark ages going out into what little wilderness is left with nothing but  what will fit into a backpack, just to get away from technology.

      I would say my phone, but by phone I really mean access to the Internet, music, email, etc. I think if I had to choose one thing I couldn't live without for a week - and it would be a week of nervous withdrawal - it would be the Internet in general.

   Hot water.  Not particularly "high tech" I know.  But that is the only thing that I would really miss, hot showers or soaking my old and aching bones in a nice hot bath.

      Well not to hard to accomplish without electricity, but tedious to fill a tub with small pots from a stove or fire, I'll give ya that! Thanks.

   Basically, I would miss watching television in my warm house right after taking a shower while chatting on my fully charged cell phone

      Fair enough. I just got a sweet wood stove so at least I'm covered on the heat. Electricity... Hmm maybe with the tax credit going on I should spring for a partial solar system. Good input!

   I would have to agree with the hot water part. I would miss that. But as for the electronics...none...I do alot of camping so it is nice to get away from them sometimes.

         If it weren't for computers and the Internet we wouldn't know right now that the end of the world has not taken place at 6 in Australia.  (Somebody needs to let the Amish people know that nothings' happened in the Southern Hemisphere (or China either).  See?  This is why PC's and the Internet are SO crucial.    )

            Very funny. You know I just came back from a friends wedding in southern Illinois; well I was there I was at the local wal-mart and I saw an old Amish man there shopping and talking on a cell phone. I think that guy probably got the rapture cancelation notice. Thanks for the comment!

   We boondock in our RV in Arizona and other warmer climates for many months each winter.  There are times when we have no electric, no hot water, no tv, and even (gulp) no internet or cell phone.  I miss the internet the most because I'm just plain addicted.  I miss the cell phone, not because we use it all the time, but because we've grown accustomed to knowing that we can be reached and we can reach out in case of emergency.  One thing I've noticed is that the longer you do without the modern technology, the less you miss it.

      During the blackout a few summers ago we had to live without electricity for a few days and I found it hard to do as there was no tv, no phone, no stove, no air conditioning and no computer. So I would have to say electricity.

   When the electricity goes off in our house (as it does often) we are goosed because we are all electric.
   
   But I have to say the greatest modern invention is safe drinking water.
   
   Without it, wouldn't live as long as a week. There is river water, but yuk! It'd probably kill you anyway.

      Easy! My computer. I can live without my phone, have done that. Live without radio and tv, have done that too. When my desktop crashed it was horrible for me. I spent 90% of my time trying to get it fixed. Now my laptop goes with me everywhere, even the bathroom.
      
      I need help, I am addicted to my computer!

            I'm basic. I'm gonna hit all of you where it hurts. ELECTRICITY. Clean water isn't a problem. (Besides, here, we get alot of rain)

               Actually, talking of electricity, can anyone advise me on the best type of generator to buy to run household appliances - cooker, TV, lights etc, for when the power goes down. Anyone written a hub on them, even?

   I've got to agree with electricity!  When my electricity went out for 20 hours, I went a little crazy!  The internet, my phone, and the oven or microwave would be the top 3 I couldn't live without.
