Targeting Specific Hubs for Increased Traffic?

I have a headache, which means that I'm probably going to be doing less work for the rest of the day and more resting with my knitting and watching TV with my daughter. We're both hit hard by allergies at the moment, and me with new contacts, too! Ugh!

So figuring that I wasn't going to be doing much more on here for the rest of the day I thought I would put a question out there.

I am devoting the next couple of days purely to cultivation. If I write something it's because I got inspired. I have a few hubs that have a ridiculously low hub score (well I think it's ridiculous anyway) and no traffic at all. One hasn't had any traffic in the past week. Oops. I might actually go ahead and delete that one but I want to try to work with it first. Average hub score is 75 and my current goal is 80. I need to bring the traffic up. Score I can increase with editing, but traffic? Ugh!

I don't like Digg. I decided this when I realized that I will get stuck on there worse than I get stuck on here. So I won't be digging any more of my articles. Digg brought in traffic but it just isn't worth the time commitment. I don't *like* any of the other social bookmarking sites.

I'm all for commenting in blogs and the like, but I also know that this doesn't work as often as most people want it to and again, it's incredibly time consuming.

I don't expect these particular hubs to do great with search engine traffic, but I also am not ready to delete them without working harder at this first. Something can change that will pull in the traffic. I just know it!

I am about two weeks away from reopening my personal blog. I am considering posting a link to edited or new hubs there and adding a list of recently updated hubs to my profile on a weekly basis. But that draws in hubpages traffic, which isn't quite what I'm going for.

    Long. Gosh I'm long winded!

Does anybody have any advice for viral marketing of poorly performing hubs?

I have discovered that writing an EzineArticles.com article or two with a similar topic and a link to my hub generates a nice amount of traffic over time.

I also put my links on facebook (which I use for personal contacts) and ask all my friends to visit ... they will share with their friends if they like it.

Start working on Squidoo lenses. They'll boost your traffic quickly. Make sure that the content is complimentary, but don't duplicate it. Squidoo is very lenient about promotional links so you can link to hubs like crazy. After you've written your Squidoo lens, go to Twitter and tweet about it and link to it. That should get you more traffic. (You should also be tweeting about your hubs.)

Is it okay to mention Squidoo? Sorry if it isn't.

Okay, Nelle... I will look into Squidoo over the weekend. I know that hubs get more traffic (relative) than lenses so I've been avoiding it, I guess.

How do you get a following on twitter? That's been part of my problem: I don't know how to get people to add me!

People are starting to use the search function there. So I would say something like. "Cape Cod motel deals Memorial Day weekend" Then use tinyurl to convert my hubpage url and post it on my tweet. People are monitoring Cape Cod. They click through.

I'm of the belief that you get ready in anticipation of trends. If twitter becomes a well-used search engine. Then I'm positioned well. It only takes a few minutes each day.

Join Stumbleupon, I got 300 of the buggers from there to read my panic attacks hub plus others. They are not good clickers but Stumbleupon will push your reads and hence scores up, good luck !

Okay, so I don't understand how stumbledupon works, but I'm going to try again, I think.

I am *so* not an internet newbie, yet social networking and social bookmarking are completely foreign to me!

All you do is sign up, hubpages have it linked to the share button so all you have to do is click, trust me stumbleupon will get you that traffic my friend.

Also, can I stumble my own hubs? I know that some sites frown on this and I don't want to wind up getting myself a bad name sad

You're not supposed to stumble your own work. It can get your banned from your account real quick. You can reopen another account with a different email, but if you continue to stumble your own stuff, that one will get banned as well. S/U is a hit and miss thing. I get some traffic, but not a lot.

Didnt know that, jeeez I have been doing it for years but thanks for letting me know.

If you evenly stumble other websites and such, too, it's not as bad. But, if you solely promote yourself then they'll ban you.

I don't do much marketing. I just let search engines pick it up. I do, on occasion check out Yahoo Answers and post a few links on questions that are relevant to my hub. But, you have to be careful posting too many links bc they're quick to ban you for a little while too, giving a 999 error when you use the same base domain. If you just stop using it for a while, then start posting again, you're usually fine.

Remember that for the most part S/U traffic doesn't lead to clicks, so it doesn't do much good.

Just looked at my traffic sources and to date in the last 24 hours I have had 463 reads on my hubs from Stumbleupon so do I need to say more Everyday ?

Holy cow! And you're doing that?

BTW, I did put up the second Wordpress hub. #3 should be up Monday and that one will probably cover your specific questions smile

Happy days, only thing is the Stumbleupon traffic are not great at clicking but the heavy traffic does push the hubscore up therefore getting it into the ggogle rating. Btw I am averaging the same earnings as you, we will deff hit the good figures Everyday, stay patience and look forward to the Wordpress.

    Thanks, Whitney!

I am doing Facebook (loading automatically now which I might stop -- it isn't working so well for me!) and Tweeted my last edited hub. Still no followers there so we'll see how all that goes.

Still working on editing some of the more poorly performing hubs!

I agree ezine articles are awesome. I don't use stumbleupon to promote my own stuff because I didn't think we should. I'd hate to get banned.

everyday miracles, you gotta chill about getting followers so quickly. You post, you blog, you hub, eventually you get followers...eventually you gets lots $$$$. somethings are an investment in next year. you just never know.

I don't expect anything overnight. But I also know that Rome wasn't built in a day, but it did take some building. I honestly don't have any idea how Twitter works. This is the first time I've ever used it and I had somehow thought that anything I make available is available only to people who are already following.

But I do have a couple of hubs that have literally done no traffic in a week. They are very personal (more like blog entries) and therefore I don't expect much from the search engines. This isn't about the money (I'm actually happy with my click through rate so early on!). But I also don't want to have to dump a hub or two or even feel tempted to do so.

Getting traffic takes work in one form or another. Most of those I'm worried about aren't going to do search engine traffic, so I need to find another way to promote wink

Cheers Whitney, and you are right about the clicks. I feel a right fool now but at least I know now, deff true you learn something everyday : )

What about directories where we *can* promote our own work? Any suggestions? Or do they even exist?

I'm willing to put continued work into doing this. HP has essentially become my "job" (at least that's how DH thinks of it now!) and I have time to spend working on it when I'm not writing. But hubs are taking me longer and longer to write lately.

I wanted to let you all know that the hubs I've edited today have drawn new traffic in. I don't know if it's because I mentioned it here or not, but that at least seems to be working! Oh, and of course I tweeted one of them! I don't want to flood with a ton of links though!
