Processed foods - better to inject the fat directly?

    I'm developing a real dislike for processed foods because of the hormones, synthetic ingredients, offal and other waste they put into these foods. I find whenever I have eaten these foods they are more fattening.

    I'm starting to think about zero intake of these foods (e.g. Burger King, Maccas, Pizza Hut, greasy fried foods etc but not quality restaurant foods)

    What are your thoughts? The video is a Pizza Hut commercial from the 80s...Hot and Steamy...mmmm

      ...that's a terrible commercial...nothing to tempt a person to go to PH.....

      ...i don't go to those places anyway...can't stand the smell...i do go to Tim Horton's - primarily for a cheap coffee...the smell of that place is starting to get to me too....so soon i probably can't go there either  lol

        I KNOW! That smell! ...the shopping mall food courts have that characteristic smell of you know, frying lard and flavour enhancers!

      I try to avoid processed foods as much as possible Right on Time.

      Cooking fresh ingredients and quality food makes you feel better. It's, as they say, a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned :-)

      Junk foods don't directly make you fat - excess calories do.

      That said it is easier to overeat junk foods because they tend to be very energy dense and they are also typically sparse in micronutrients compared to unprocessed foods.

      I don't particularly enjoy most junk foods, but if you enjoy some junk food and want to maintain a healthy weight it is possible as long as you eat in moderation, make sure they fit into your daily calorie and macronutrient totals if you're dieting.

        I am sorry but I have to post my disagreement here. Junk foods certainly make you fat, not the calories!

        I can eat tons of calories and as long as they come from the right source and im exercising to speed up my TCA cycle and reduce stress, I will surely not gain any fat.

        Fructose and chemical additives make you fat. 30% of fructose is converted into fat in your liver. Not just any fat, the deadly kind. The kind that is not easy to remove. The additives.. oh god that is a whole article I have to write about.

          Have you heard of the professor that went on the Twinkies diet (Mark Haub)? Tom Naughton from Fat Head? Both lost a good amount of weight eating diets that contained a high percentage of 'junk foods.'

    I'm not completely against processed foods, some of them taste pretty good, I just think it's like most things in life, if you eat there in moderation you will be okay.

    I do however feel that some of the chav mums in leeds who take their kids to macdonalds every day need to be shot

      No, thisisoli, even in moderation it is NOT okay.
      Processed food is a POISON for your body. it is where cancer threat starts. Your body needs clean lightly cooked products, that are as fresh as possible and as unaltered as possible. Over processed food is hard to digest and your body cannot get rid of all that junk and starts putting it "aside" here and there until you look like a doughnut yourself. Then you have all kinds of diseases that people cannot connect to food and blame on something else. Like arthritis, blood pressure - high/low, depression , heart problems, what not. Just try to eat super healthy and you'll see a HUGE DIFFERENCE and right away, that's amazing.

      @thisisoli: I totally hear you. Last week on a lunchbreak I saw a mum feeding her 3 yr old kid a doughnut. Heh!? roll

    After years of never setting foot inside a fast food joint, all that food now taste bad and all the same.

    I really don't know why anyone eats at those places. It's bad, makes you fat and does not really taste all that great.

    Why not just save a few bucks, roll a chilled ball of fat in salt and flavoring and gulp it down at home! hmm

    The trouble with processed food is just that - it's processed.  This mostly robs any raw ingredients of the nutrients they may have had.  The lack of nutrients tells your body that it isn't yet nourished sufficiently, so you eat more. 

    Unfortunately, all that sugar and fat doesn't do you any good.  The lack of exercise on top of that is a recipe for poor health.

    I agree with HomeGirl, although I wouldn't exactly call it poison.  As long as you stick to a natural diet 95% of the time, you can have a small treat, once in a long while...it's not going to kill you.

    it's not just fat, it is overprocessed fat! They heat it to 300+ in a fryer and here you are, for a week (by my experience, I worked there once)they deep fry everything there in the same oil all the time whole day for a week. They change oil once a week. And you eat that stuff, all soaked in that reheated oil over and over again. Even a burger, they take it from the freezer, put some of it on the side of a grill, and it waits the whole day for a customer to come and order it. Sometimes they precook it a little, then it will stay again in a warm place till customer orders it. I do not want to get into details,but I'll tell you one thing. If after eating that you are still okay - it's a miracle, be happy. But don't think it will last.

    If you are not used to fast food and you eat it, you'll feel either sick in your stomach or you'll feel more hungry than before.

      my parents feel that way, they get a little gluggy if they eat takeout which is like never. Did you work at one of the major burger chains?

        When I came to Canada, we made a mistake to move into a small town south of Toronto, it's a different story though. My basically first job in Canada was working in a "Harvey". It is a burger chain. I left it in a year, planned to return later for a part time, but this joint closed in a year after I left. They could not function without me big_smile. Seriously, they probably could not survive in a small town. I do not know if that chain is still operates in Canada. People I worked with were mostly very nice, I liked them. It's a hard job and hard business. Hard to survive in it.

    The hydrogenated oils used by the processed food industry has caused our omega6 levels to rise to an alarming level of 16:1 against our omega3 levels.
    A healthy balance is 2:1 in favor of the omega 3s.
    The huge increase in people suffering from clinical depression and bipolar disorders is believed to have been caused by this imbalance, not to mention heart disease, cancers, diabetes etc.

    So yeah leave the processed food out completely.

    The thing that upsets me is how these companies will try to fool consumers into thinking that what they have is healthy.
    I see "all-natural" on far too many food labels, which makes me wonder why we even have an FDA if they won't protect consumers from lies.

    Many things come down to companies wanting to make the product look pleasing to the eye. Sodium nitrate, for instance, is used to keep meat looking good, though it may have gone bad.

      Yeah I don't trust the manufacturers, definitely.The only way to know is with raw ingredients you cook up.

    The thing of it is they are so addictive, so I don't think everyone can eat them in 'moderation.' Personally, I rarely ever eat them. I know they are not good for me, so just keep away from it as much as I can, which is more often than not! Junk in - Junk out pretty much sums it up. It won't kill you instantly, but it would eventually for sure. Natural is best any day!!

    It's also true that fats don't make you fat. If dietary fat isn't used by the body, it passes out. Unlike carbs it doesn't turn into body fat which is essentially stored energy. Use it or lose it, I think too much is made these days about dietary fat when they really probably only meant hydrogenated fats which are BAD for you.
    Worry about the added sugar, salt and artificial preservatives in processed foods which let's face it, isn't just fast food. Processed food is all your tins and packets too.

    I personally try to avoid processed foods as much as I can.because these junk and extra oily food increases fat very fast and also upraises the cholesterol level.
    Eating homemade foods with less oil and butter is good,healthy and tasty also.
