Mike Brown is the new head coach of the Lakers

   In recent news according to ESPN, former Cleveland Cavaliers coach, Mike Brown, has just been named the new coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.  To be honest, I'm very surprised by this pick, as I never would've guessed in a million years that the Lakers would replace one of the best playoff coaches in the nba with one of the worst.  Then again, what do I know?  What are you're thoughts on this?  Is Mike Brown a good fit for this team?  Or do you think the Lakers made a bad call?

         Well to be fair, Mike Brown did always lead his Cavs to teams to owning the best record in the league almost every year, and they were highly competitive defensively.  Besides, who says that just because he ran his offense one way in Cleveland that he'll necessarily do it again in LA.  After all, Pat Riley used to run a up tempo finesse offense back when he coached the Lakers in the eighties.  then when he started coaching the Knicks and Heat in the nineties, he changed his coaching philosophy into running more of a half court grinding physical defensive teams.  Not that I'm comparing Coach Brown to Riley, but I'm just saying it's possible.  Besides, it could've been a lot worse.
         
         Edit:  Plus, according to espn, he has the fifth best winning percentage in nba history.  Sure, it hasn't translated well in terms of playoff success, but the Lakers are a much deeper team than LeBron's Cavs were.  Therefore, it might work out differently this time.

   As a Laker fan, I must say that the Laker nation (including myself) think this is a sad day. I would have been thrilled with Adelman and happy with Shaw or Van Gundy. This move however just doesn't make sense. From my recollection, Brown was always badly outcoached in the playoffs and really has no idea on how to coach offense. His motto was to make it a half-court game and have LeBron go one on five every time down the court. FAIL! He also let LeBron run all over him like a doormat. I thought there was a reason nobody hired him after he got fired last year. I really thought the Lakers would have had Kobe Bryant give his thumbs up to any decision they made, but it doesn't look like that happened seeing this choice. I'm definitely concerned as a Laker fan right now.

      Well to be fair, he may be a lousy offensive coach, but he's proven to be a freaking genius when it comes to defensive schemes; particularly perimeter defensive plays which the Lakers struggled with all year.  Plus, LeBron even admitted that he would not have been the great defender that he is today if it had not been for Mike Brown.  Therefore, I think he'll do a great job making the Lakers more rounded defensively. Plus, let's not forget that he did lead the Cavs to consecutive winning seasons, and was once a coach of the year winner too. As for offensively, you do have a point, as Mike Brown has never been a genius on that end.
      
      However, he was once a assistant coach under Greg Poppovich in San Antonio back when they had David Robinson and Tim Duncan playing together.  Therefore, one can only assume that he might convince the Lakers to keep both Pau and Bynum to formulate an offensive attack based around those two.  I could be wrong about that, but it's possible.  Besides, we both know Kobe Bryant isn't getting any younger, so it's only a matter of time before they start to revolve the offense around somebody else.  Therefore, it's possible Kobe could become a third or second option offensively next year under Brown.  Again, I'm merely speculating at this point.

   still they should of gone with shaw but he might be heading to golden state with jerry west perferct fit for b shaw!!! Kobe wanted van gundy so this is almost a slap in the face and as far as bynum and gasol being robinson and dunkin dont hold your breath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

   After Jackson, it's going to feel like a step down.  On one hand MB got the Cavs to the finals with lots of deficiencies and on the other, they got there with a very young leader.  I'm not sure if the veteran Laker team will respond to him, or maybe the Lakers are going to start doing a lot of rebuilding.  Not sure.

   The Lakers just made a statement today that Andrew Bynum is "untouchable" in trade talks. They are basically designating him as their franchise player of the future. This, combined with the hiring of Mike Brown without getting Kobe's input really makes me wonder which direction the Lakers are headed in.
