Why Didn't the Democrats Pass a Budget?

   Why?   They had the numbers.  Were they afraid there'd be even more push back than they experienced in November?  Did they decide to wait and hang it on the Republicans?
   
   It'd be nice to have a Congress that cares about the nation for a change.
   
   Politicians!  Worms.
   
   The monsters in Congress need to be destroyed and replaced.  Not one more term, how about prison terms instead.
   
   Why do we accept criminals as leaders?

      Want some real conspiracy here? It's a really brilliant game of chess. I can't say I like it, but potentially brilliant nonetheless if it was played like this. The Democrats knew they would get killed in November. They also knew that the Freshman class in the House would be, at least in part, made up of inexperienced, idealistic Tea Partiers. The Dems knew that Boehner wouldn't be able to handle them. And he hasn't - at least yet. The Dems also realized that the last time, under Clinton, the Republicans retook the house, they ended up shutting down the government. And that was a high price that the Republicans paid indeed. Not passing a budget and making the Republicans the enemy in the process, as they have control,  is a win-win. I don't like it, but it's possible -

         Sounds plausible to me.   Might not work out as hoped though.  Unfortunately for the Democrats the chatter is loud and clear and Americans aren't living under bushel baskets anymore.
         
         It'd be so much easier for them if we'd all just shut up.

            The chatter is loud indeed - but the chatter, at least in part, is insane. Not all of it, but the "whacky" is what gets remembered. America doesn't do "whacky" - at least not in the long term. Obama turned tables on your guys and has moved more toward the center.
            Independents, your only hope in 2012, need to be convinced that you folks aren't nuts - turning up the whacky rhetoric isn't going to romance these people, of which I am one.

      Actually, there is a simple reason why no budget was passed in Congress before Nov. Mid-terms and then there are also some complicated reasons (a.k.a. politics). The simple reason is one that many Americans may not realize, which is that any Senator—any one Senator—can put a secret hold on any piece of legislation, and that hold can be for as long as they want to hold it back. In other words, one reason why the Democrats did not accomplish passing a budget is the secret hold maneuver, which sort of kills any bill—bills stay in limbo and can stay that way for a long time. Then budget bills likely need 60 votes to pass—right after Obama took office, the Dems lost Ed Kennedy, then months later they lost Robert Byrd—so keeping that in mind they would have needed two and may be more Republicans to pass a budget bill. Most of them were not very helpful. Next, the Republicans will enact an odd maneuver that will block the President from appointing any person to any position during the recess vacation that is coming very soon. Justice Roberts actually sent a letter to Congress this week requesting them to allow for the appointment of judges—seems like the Republicans have held back so many Obama appointments that our Judicial system is frozen and falling apart. So you want to know why things do not get done? Just look all this stuff up—you’ll find out.

         Exactly--it was obstructionist politics played by Repubs.
         They are the ones to blame for all our troubles.
         Always have been, always will be.
         
         They do nothing when they're the out party, and only cater to religious right and big money when they're in.
         
         If you want to see the result of all their great ideas.....look around you.
         
         It's all their fault.

   "Why do we accept criminals as leaders?" Every country in the world has drug kingpins. The US, the biggest drug consumer in the world, has no drug king pins Vis-à-vis the media.

         The Dems didn't pass a budget because the repubs didn't like the one presented, so, the question should be, why didn't THEY ALL pass a budget. The problem is the difference between running in the red, or REALLY running in the red. To fund, or not to fund. Is it nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows hurled by thy constituents, or to bow to the indebtedness of our progeny.

            Oh, the Democrats didn't have a majority?   I thought they did.   I'm pretty sure they did.   That was the point right.   That was how they passed Obamacare right?  Then why didn't they pass a budget since they could have.

               No longer controlling both houses. Didn't matter much when they did. The American people held hostage to the party line...both parties. Think it's time four a truly representative third party, but the other two won't let them play. Possession of the ball.

   Why didn't the Dems pass a budget before 2010 when they had the majority in both houses?
   Because God told them to wait for the messiah. That he would be made known to all when the time was right.
   And lo, in a kingdom called Washington, unto them a savior was born.

   Strychnine I can do. It's non-prescription, so even tho we'll be losing our health coverage (with SS to follow), we can still self-medicate!
