Municipal or Federal?
if you do check all of your background stuff real good and be prepaired to defend it, and make sure Hubby has nothing in the closet, because oponents will attack anything that looks suspicious.
Sense you are , it seems, politicaly astute and with connections, and you teach and have resources. maybe a Political think tank page and write as you say about it.
Run your sources and write for a living. Might be much easier on the Kids and less scrutiny. Or Write for the Party you belong to, or a specific candidate, might lead to an office position if She or He gets in.
Or do Your own Political page and site. Local Politics, information for voters, sting articles, etc... might be rewarding also. Do Both- teach part time, write full, or vice versa.

great thoughts, thank you very much. of course, this would all be easier if it were in my own language. very hard to write and speak in a second language to try and get the the native speakers to buy it. yes its been done, and i'm working on it, but not quite there yet

Hey Megs...some folks wanting to break into provincial or federal politics sometimes step into a municipal role first to gain recognition. The roles are very different however as you probably know. Municipal remuneration is usually not very high for a full-time commitment - they say it's part-time but it isn't if you are focused on the role as a stepping stone and/or continuing on for another term - people will be able to tell too that you don't plan on being around for long, if they are smart. It is also best to keep political affiliation out of municipal politics as well. Provincial and federal roles expect that you are available 24 hours - 7 days a week - Ouch!...and i guess muncipal too!...get yourself 2 telephones.
I have a few friends in all levels of politics - I do know you lose your privacy in any of the roles and folks expect you to be available to listen to their woes - so....listening about garbage collection or what your neighbour is building without a permit, and or you might even get a call about a stray cat...but you have to listen and respond somehow. And then finally, you have to be able to handle the news articles and criticism - because criticism will always be there.
It's a big decision to make - with municipal you won't have to travel much, but you'll be busy. With provincial and federal - there is lots of travel. I think the biggest dilemma and barrier for young women with a family at home is the loss of privacy and the time commitment required.

and I live in the only county in the country that doesn't have a conservative candidate, and who hasn't had one for the last two elections so there is more pressure on the cons to get one. we shall see...
