I just wrote a really helpful hub for mechanics on the finer art of setting valve clearances on overhead camshaft motors and haven't had a single comment!

Am I the only mechanical nerd left on hubpages or indeed on planet earth? lol

Awwww, don't feel bad, earnesthub! You are writing about a very specific thing that relates only to people who work on cars, many of whom might not also happen to be interested in writing (or reading) articles like your literary self.........don't take it personally.

It's the wiggly thing behind the coolant fribulator that controls the flow to your headlight brake condenser that gets jammed in your crown pinion gear wheel, It happens sometimes because of the weather in Africa or if you drive past a lot of oak trees.

OK I stole that off one of my own hubs, so sue me! smile

When I was too young my father took me with him to fix his motor - we passed a few garages to end up at some backstreet place I had never noticed before that had the only female mechanic around.

I asked Dad why we had came especially for her to fix his car and he told me that she tightened the nuts better than the men.

I hired a female mechanic once. She was terrific! Not only did she tighten nuts, she could straighten a shaft well too. smile

Guys, stop it please.  I just knew this was going in that direction. I have enjoyed the laugh though. My side is hurting from laughter.

This is no laughing matter !  I met that mechanic a few years later and she needed a re-bore and new liners !  AND her thrust plate bearings had developed a serious wiggle.

I've noticed that in a few female mechanics. Some of them seem to have suspension problems too. smile

Only after they've dealt with decades of new models is that really a problem.

....j/k - yor handsome...yes, I think the dooby pic would be excellent - but save it for the end of the article!

OK I'll go find some handsome guy and show him how to hold a spanner.

I can't use my head, it's got too many miles on it, and is pretty rough around the edges as well. smile

I used to be handsome really I did! It was about a hundred years ago though! lol

OK.  You may be sorry you called "certain people's" (like mine) attention to your Hub, but I left a nice, big, question on your Hub.

This isn't anything anyone (including myself) didn't already know, but your thread (and the fact that seeing your Hub did bring up a question for me) highlighted the reason it's not a bad idea to let people (outside the specific-subject, like "autos") forum know the kind of stuff we, Hubbers, write about (as far as getting them read, and getting comments, goes.

People might regret calling the attention of the likes of me (with my tendency toward wordiness) to their Hubs (and getting long, ignorant, but legitimate, questions), but I'm reminded that I'm kind of guilty of reading Hubs in the areas/interests that I'm familiar with, and know something about; rather than stuff written in areas I don't.  As a result, there's not much to ask or discuss in comments.

I read the hub.  I really did.  And while I understand most of the words individually when you put them all together like that I end up looking like the RCA puppy.  Therefore the only possible comment I could have left would have been "huh?" and I didn't think that really added value to the hub.

But now I know who to bother when my car starts making funny noises.
