      Not all of the world is America.
      
      Our economy is fine, and looking after my family very well. Full employment, and the economy is still growing strongly.
      I feel for my American cousins.
      
      The wars America started in other peoples countries had all but destroyed the economy, the crooked bankers and their representatives finished it off.

      My husband and I took a little bit of a loss on the sale of our condo this month.  All things considered, it could have been a lot worse.  My husband has been in school until this past May, which has sheltered him from a lot of the downturn in the economy.  I've been teaching special education in a public school, which has also remained a relatively safe position.

      it is effecting me somewhat, however being that I'm semi-retired and am going out on my own, being that no company will hire me for I have too strong a personality - although I did get hired as a reporter/examiner - I will be going out on my own.  It is funny that if your too strong willed no company wants you, but do become a success by yourself and the world beats a path to your door.

   First off, a tip of the hat to Earnest's statement.
   
   That being said the economy hit us pretty hard as we were a mom and pop repair shop but we just couldn't hold on any longer.  We lasted two and half years before closing down.
   
   On the flip side, I was forced to seek alternative means to finding health care for myself when I could no longer afford self-pay and that sent me to the Veterans Affairs clinic where extensive tests have revealed that I have bilateral dysgermanomas (sp) that are most likely malignent.  Sans insurance, I would not have been able to pay for the tests or the surgery and this form of cancer would have gone both undetected and untreated.
   
   It has also opened up an opportunity to relocate that we will be hoping to utilize before autumn begins.  It's been a lose-win kind of situation for us but we're optimists and we're doing the best we can to make the best of a poor situation.

      I am so sorry to hear of your medical problem and the sad fact that you had to close down.  Good that your being able to move - look for that opportunity to open a bus again - you owe it to yourself.

   Thanks CC. I do hope things work out well for you. I know small business has taken a hiding in America.
   The margin on repairs is too small in my view, auto repair shops in Australia hover between 2-4%. net retainable profit.

   Thank you, guys, for your expressed concern.  I will be fine.  My surgery is next week and this type of cancer is usually very treatable.
   
   We want to open again, eventually.  Until then our passion still burns so we'll work in the backyard here and there.  Again, an upside to what we've been through is we've learned a few lessons so when we're ready to reopen we'll be better.
   
   I guess what frustrated us most about closing was knowing that nobody did what we did for a 42 mile radius and our reputation was high.  We thought that would get us through but when our customers are losing their jobs and getting laid off then we can't get paid either.  You know how the rest of the story goes.
   
   Lessons learned, hard times lived through, we'll be fine.

      What business did you have to close ? 
      
      Sounds like my landscaping and nursery business (a long time ago) that we had to close for the same reason, we were the most popular and biggest by far, but when that phone only rings with people cancelling orders there is nothing can be done !

         We had a motorcycle accessories, parts, and service store.  It does hurt when you know you have what the public wants but you cannot control the economy.  It was a painful process, before long we had more customer bikes for sale on our billboard than we had in the repair shop.  We knew they didn't want to be in that position anymore than we did.

   On a different slant, the economy here is booming which means that the Yuan gains strength constantly, this in turn means that I can now save enough for a trip to the UK at Xmas for both of us.  I am moderately optimistic that the emerging model of international trade will help to stabilise the world economy in general.  Increase is not necessary for the greatest number of people to enjoy a happy and rewarding life, just stability.

   How is the economy effecting you?
   
   Well, if the State I live in, continues to operate it's piece of the Status Quo in America, then I could be homeless, sooner than later.
   
   But, until that time arrives, I will continue to do whatever I can do to prevent it. I might be successful or not.
   
   Either way, I will not let it diminish my optimistic view of the future.

   I think of it like this, even when the economy is booming, there is still plenty of competition, I think for the most part the economy has given me some freedom to explore different ideas and ultimately I'm not too worried about what the economy is doing, because I've seen plenty of people hit rock bottom before the economy was in a rut.
   
   You could be a millionaire one day and flat broke the next.
