Why does religion rise so much emotion ? Why do religeous people so often get angry with atheists ?
Why , when I was five , was I attacked by a friend (same age), when I told him santa claus didn't exist ?

I'm a Catholic accountant who does most of his work for evangelical fundraisers who fund Christian and secular aid workers who do much of their work in Muslim and Hindu countries.  I rarely see the kind of uncivil discourse displayed here.  I think religion raises a lot of ire here because:

    1.  The anonymity of the Net: few of us have to work with each other tomorrow

    2.  Many of us are self-promoters, so it pays to be bombastic.

    3.  We have a variance of belief, but no reason to moderate our comments.

I think if we took most of the people who post here and put them in a room together to discuss the same topics, we would end up with more appreciation for other people's point of view (although probably no more agreement).

And what fun would that be?  None.

And you're all going to burn in hell.

    Good night. smile

    Here's my theory:

In any other forum, discussion is limited by unfortunate material facts. The Cardinals won or they didn't. Heartworm kills dogs or it doesn't. Cars can run on water or they can't.

Only in the religion forum can one, with a straight face, produce "arguments" ex cathedra from one's belly button (or someone else's), and call them "facts", and rely on them for further deductions, and genuinely expect other people to take one seriously, and even bleat plaintively when they don't.

That makes this forum ever so much more creative and interesting than the others, IMHO ...

Ain't it the truth. But the evolutionists need somewhere to present their extrapolations.
