I paid into SS for over 30 yrs!
Why the hell did gov't use it as a "general fund" and destroy a good thing?
Qwark
And now they say it is "unsustainable", as if any account you are allowed to steal from at will could be "sustainable". Similar to what some of the states have done to pension funds for civil servants....
when I was in the 9th grade wewere told ss wouldnt be around for our generation to collect it, they were right. That was 17 years ago, makes you wonder why wasnt it fixed then????
But? Wait a sec? I remember hearing about a Social Security lockbox?
Has someone stolen OUR money?
Where are the charges?
All a scam. Wall Street wants the social security lock box like they want the public education system and everything else.
If it goes "bust" guys, those who are already on it are voters...and the reaction will be catastrophe for recipients and for politicians.
The "fund" has been used by politicians, since it's creation, as a "general fund."
That gives ya an idea as to the intelligence and intent of politicians who aren't replaced after a max of 8 yrs in office.
Corruption becomes rampant and chronic!

Through our working years we all paid for Social Security and Medicare, so why are they considered entitlements when in fact we contributed our own money into the system?

Why are the politicians so focused on taking away the financial means which most Senior Citizens' have to survive; rent, food, all household expenses comes out of their benefits for a whole month. Health benefits are affected every year but now they want to take what financial means available...

I saw a headline today that said Social Security to run Permanent Deficits. How will retirement be funded for the majority of Americans who have no savings - nothing? It's ridiculous to think that we continue to support something that has already failed.

My husband is a disabled vet and I could not believe the notice he got in the mail this last month. Social Security informed him that the cost of living has actually remained the same or even maybe went down, according to the government, therefore they are charging him with an overpayment for...
