Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding everyone will be moved over soon anyway, right?
I've done a bit of reading on it, but still have a few q's. I'll start with the big one.
I have a few... well, ALL of my hubs that I'd like to change the title and permalink pretty bits for. Maybe this is the perfect opportunity to do it.
I had actually been considering taking everything down, waiting for de-indexing, then making the desired changes and republishing.
Sounds crazy, but I actually do have a reason.
So... is there some way in this process that I can choose the exact permalink uri that I want, and change all my titles over... and still do the redirect?
thx
Assuming your term of permalink refers to the URL, there isn't a good way to do that. As you point out, the only real way is to unpublish them wait for de-indexing and re-publish with a new URL and title.
However, this will cost you in terms of age, and if there are copied hubs out there (all too frequent, unfortunately) your new hub will be the copied one and not the original.
Should you choose this route, I don't see that the subdomain will have anything to do with it. Whether the new URL's are in the subdomain only or are pointed to via a 301 redirect won't make much difference. Either way you will lose any backlinks as well as the positive effects of age. They will be brand new hubs.
Well, I'm asking because I'm not familiar enough with the migration process. It seems like the migration MIGHT just provide my one and only opportunity to change all the url slugs or whatever to what I want.
If there is somewhere in that process where I CHOOSE the details of the new URL rather than the same post name simply being automatically applied to the new subdomain... or if I can retitle them before migration, and if the new slug is generated by the title... then I will have moved them over, and done what I wanted without de-indexing.
The whole point of the 301 is that backlinks still flow through, right? No reason the new destination has to have the same title or slug... unless that's built into HP's migration process.
In other words, if the old one is:
http://hubpages.com/hub/OLD-TITLE
am I automatically stuck with the new one being:
http://gregsage.hubpages.com/hub/OLD-TITLE
or... am I given the ability to either choose what appears after the "hub/" like was the first time around...
or... If I retitle it now to "NEW TITLE", can I get the system to automatically generate the url's based on that, and generate:
http://gregsage.hubpages.com/hub/NEW-TITLE
If so, does this cause any issues with redirect?
Seems like this MIGHT be my ONLY chance to do that without penalty.
Or... do I have the 301 thing backwards? Is it pointing FROM the new subdoman (automatically generated url) TO the old one? In that case, I see there's no way.
I had been under the general impression that everything was being moved over, and old url's would redirect to the new ones. If that assumption is wrong, then I get it.
My understanding has always been that with hubpages that the hub URL can never be changed. As wilderness says, your only option would be to unpublish you hub then copy the content into a 'new' hub with a new URL.
All-right. I've gone as far as I can without hitting the make a switch button and yeah... it appears I'm given no options at all... so everything will just keep the same info...
UNLESS... and this is critical. I really need an insider answer here...
Is it possible that wen the new subdomain is created that the new permalinks' slugs will be autogenerated based upon the TITLE of the hubs rather than the old permalink slugs?
If so, I just need to switch all the titles now and it will take care of itself. If not, I need to remove everything I've written and start over. The difference is anything but minor, so I really need the correct answer to this one.
Basically... Is it the old permalink slug that determines the new one, or is it the current TITLE of the hub that generates the new slug? (like it was the first time around when writing each one) BIG difference between the two for me.
Nope - you are fine the URLS do NOT change whatsoever except for the prefaced subdomain.
Well, that would mean I'm not allright. That would mean I have to unpublish everything.
Are you SURE, though? If you haven't changed the title of one of your hubs before switching, and had accepted the default title-based slug when yo created them... then you'd be unable to tell the difference.
Only a hub with a SWITCHED title moved to a subdomain would answer this question.
Greg,
I switched right when they said we could... I have not changed anything and all of my titles are different from my URLS and I can change them and nothing will happen to the URL. HP will not allow that to happen... imagine all the lost linkjuice from the 301 redirect that would be lost.
A switched title will not change your URL. Just think... if everyone was having this problem imagine the forum reaction would be huge. Just switch to the subdomain and you'll see.
OK, thx... just wanted to verify that even if titles were different, it is the old slug and not the title that carries over to the new slug.
I know a title change doesn't trigger a url change in general... just wanted to verify that it wasn't primary in the switch.
Answered.
Bummer.
All of mine have got to go. Gotta mull this over for a day or so, but I think I might just unpublish everything.
... may as well do a new screen name at that point since I have one that would fit better my overall goals.

I wanted to add a contents to my hub with links to sections within the article. I managed to do this using the mod_##### number but then noticed that the links don't work when browsing with Safari on Iphone or Ipad, they just take you to the top of the page. They do work with Chrome for...

I did look around to see if anyone else had this problem, but I'm not seeing it anywhere. For about a couple of months now, when I log into my site, instead of it taking me directly to my profile or home page, it says "sorry, this user does not exist". What's with that? ...

I noticed a pin to one of my hubs was blocked (likely due to redirecting since the other reasons don't seem to apply.)The pin in question:https://www.pinterest.com/pin/20618110770864293/Note it takes you to hubpages.com/hub/Castles-in-France which will redirect to my subdomain. However, Pinterest...

I've had a massive headache ever since reading about this Squidoo acquisition thing yesterday. I'm not even going to get into whether I think it is a good idea or not. It doesn't matter what I think. The deal is done so it's time to move forward, and as always I trust HP management to make the...
