   R.I.P. Borders! You've been there when the chips were down. You were there when I was struggling to write a simple western werewolf hunter story. You were there with Seattle's Best Coffee, with the JavaKulas in the summer and the warm chocolate lattes in the winter. Damn you, internet, and your Ereader/Ebook technology! I blame you and I'll never forgive you!

      Hmm, I don't think I can grieve too much for a corporate giant.  I'm more upset when a locally-owned bookstore goes under.  Like Cody's on Telegraph Ave in Berkeley.  When it closed, I shed real tears.
      
      I also prefer the smell of old books to brand spanking new ones... and I like trees... so I tend to frequent used bookstores.

         (shrugs) Corporate or not, I always loved the atmosphere of Borders (or at least the one in my hometown).
         
         For me, MY Borders at Augusta Exchange was my version of a locally-owned bookstore. It had great coffee, great employees, and it was just a fun place to hangout.
         
         So, you can have your Ma and Pa store, Maddie, I love my Borders!!

         Yes, libraries are quiet. I always feel happy and safe there. Maybe libraries will have a comeback. I agree we need coffee though.

   I still don't have a kindle or e-book or any of that stuff... I love holding books. I'll be sad if the day comes when technology completely takes over, and barnes and noble leaves us, too.

      I like the feel of a book but i am more interested in the content. Since i got my kindle i have started reading as much as i did when i was in my teens.  Also, i can hear about a book and own it within seconds.
      
      Still, i do still like browsing in bookstores and libraries.

   I'm with y'all in grieving!
   I like a real book with real pages I can turn and with a real bio or autobiography attributed to the author, etc.
   
   I was irritated when the "card catalog" at libraries went digital;  now it's getting even worse.
