Delete a Hub and then republish-duplicate penalty applies?

   i would like to change some urls on my older hubs.I can only do this my deleting the hub (after copying it first)
   then start a new hub,copy and paste the old copied hub
   with a new url.
   is this going to create a duplicate penalty ?
   do i have to wait a certain number of days?
   anyone do thsi?

   Hey Stacie,
   
   You have to wait for the hub to be de-indexed, before you can publish it again, otherwise, a copy of it will still exist, even though you deleted it.

      yeah thats was I was thinking but don't know how long to wait...
      I saw some misspelled words in my old hubs urls and thought to fix them

         It's estimated at about 7-10 days. Sometimes it's quicker.

         before you delete your originals, check that no-one has copied your hubs. Take a selection of text from each hub, or several text selections, and run them through Google. No copies, then go ahead and unpublish.
         Copies? File DMCAs now, because it will be harder to be successful after you have unpublished.

   So what do you do when your hub was unpublished because some not so bright individual reported your hub as a duplicate when the duplicate was actually a duplicate of the original hub with a link to that hub?  If I republish will I then be caught in an endless duplicate loop?  And should I suffer for that or should the reporter who didn't do their homework?

      Ahh...so you reproduced your own hub with a link back to your original hub, which, if anyone has been reading my comments on another thread is actually OK according to Matt Cutts.
      
      Clearly this is against HP TOS which clearly states that original content only is acceptable.
      
      And how do you know that the individual who reported you is 'not so bright'?
      
      It wouldn't matter to HP how bright, or not, they were. if you have violated HP rules, you will get unpublished.

         I don't see how that is against Hubpage TOS.  That's an impossible expectation as we would all have to spend our time tracking down whole or partial copies of our hubs rather than writing them.  To suggest that no partial quotes can be taken from off of hubs and posted somewhere else with a link back is absurd, as others who are not even part of hubpages will be doing it - it is called sharing information and quoting works.

               Stacie, I have deleted hubs, and then republished the material (copy-pasted) with the original URL, as well as with a "new improved" URL (I, too, had spelling mistakes in a couple).
               
               I had no duplicate problems with any of the new hubs, but if I re-used the same URL, I had to wait until the old hub was removed from the hubs listed on the "Statistics" page.
               
               As for copied content, Mandrake - I have a quoted material in a couple of hubs, but as long as the quoted material is not a major portion of the content, it is not a problem. On one, I had quoted a fairly long portion, but after adding about 1000 more words, it was deemed OK. I was told quoted content should be less than 1/3 of the total content.
               
               If you copied only a small portion of the hub to another site to make your backlink, it shouldn't be a problem. That sort of thing is done on SheToldMe all the time, and is quite alright.
               
               If you copied the whole hub though, you have violated the T.O.S. "Original content" means exactly that - whether it is copied by you or by someone else, a copy is a copy. There's no point fussing about it, and calling people down because you are trying to get around the T.O.S. is not going to change things.
               
               Well said, Izzy. Those of us who have gone through the grief of Panda can certainly appreciate a hard line on that point if it means a better site.
