How do new Hubbers get a following?

   Hi everyone,
   I'm really new to Hub pages and was wondering, how do new Hubbers get followers? How can I get to know who’s who in HP and get people to visit my hubs and possibly even become followers?
   
   I know following other Hubbers is good Karma, but most of the people I follow are so popular (thousands of followers) that I’m pretty sure they won’t be bothered with me and my paltry 2 hubs.
   
   Any advice from all you seasoned pros?

      If you write well the followers will come.  Not big on following myself and only follow those whose hubs I enjoy or those I consider friends here.
      
      Don't worry about followers as they do not make you money here.  Welcome to Hubpages, by the way.

      The best way to get followers is to be active in the forums, and in making comments on other people's Hubs.  Most Hubbers are too busy writing to go browsing around the site, looking for newbies - but if we see a new Hubber making an interesting comment on our Hubs, or posting an intelligent response in a forum thread, we'll be curious and visit your profile.
      
      Don't follow Hubbers just to get followed back, it doesn't work!  Follow Hubbers whose work you enjoy reading, or whom you can learn from.

   I'd echo the advice to write well. I'd also advise getting active with answers and with forums to get your name out there. Leave comments on other hubs too and follow hubbers that have similar interests to you. Just stay active in general and they will come.

   If you want followers who read your hubs, a great place to start is by following the topics in the Hubs section. I see you're active in homeschooling. http://hubpages.com/topics/education-an … oling/3860 Follow the topics in which you write and have interest in following.  You will start to see hubs show up on your feed of topics you follow. Take some time to read and leave a thoughtful comment.
   You've only been here a short time, the followers will come in time.
   Being moderately active in the community will give you more exposure.  It can help to comment on forum threads, especially those categories and topics you follow. You may have helpful advice or information that can help others. There are many who read the forums, but don't comment. So don't presume your post goes unnoticed if no one specifically comments.
   Welcome and enjoy! It's a great place to write and there are so many great hubbers to discover.

   You're actually doing exactly the smartest thing you could do, Trinity M. I noticed you also posted another forum topic and this one -- so you're on "our" radar screens now.
   Remember that there are two parts to HP -- external viewers who can make you money, and internal followers who, as Randy Godwin stated, don't make you money (but get you all kinds of HP fame and virtual fortune).
   
   This is a COMMUNITY and so the best way to get known is to participate. Read other people's hubs and comment on them.
   Write hubs and hopefully you'll get chosen as a Hub Nugget participant.
   Answer questions, pose questions, and post to forums (but be careful of the controversial ones as you don't want 50% of the hubber nation hating you right off the bat:-).

      Thank you ladies, rebekah and MM, nice to get to know the ropes and I must admit nice to get to know the HP community as well. Although the money is the primary motivating factor here it is nice to get to know people too, so thank you all for the kind words and great advice!

   Read and comment on other people's hubs, join in the forums, follow people. But mostly, it just takes time.

   Trinity - I agree with the others. Read other's hubs and follow those people you like. Many will follow you in return.
   A word of caution though - don't follow people just to get followers, without reading their hubs.
   Read a hub I wrote called How New Hubbers Ruin Their Hubscore.

   Hello Trinity, Welcome to HP.
   
   The first thing not to do is follow people to get followers.
   
   To do:-
   
   Write interesting and engaging hubs that people will want to read and followers will come.
   
   Read other hubs and leave insightful comments and people will return the favor and read your hubs. If they like what you have to offer they will follow.
   
   Participate in forums and the questions section. Be courteous and respectful when in the forums and you will gain admirers who may want to follow you.
   
   Follow only hubbers you are interested in following. Don't worry about followers right away, it will take some time to gain followers. You will want followers who are genuinely interested in reading your hubs and leaving comments.

   The ingredients are:
   
   1. Write good enough hubs to attract genuine followers.
   
   2. Increase your visibility by commenting on other hubs.
   
   3. Increase your visibility through stopping by on forums sometimes.
   
   4. Answer some questions in the relevant section and/or ask some questions too.
   
   5. The most important thing - follow others to get followers. I know it should not be the most important thing but sadly everybody knows a fact here, that by doing this, you can get THE MOST AMOUNT OF FOLLOWERS than any other above mentioned activity.

      Great advice all and thanks to everyone for the useful comments and advice. I agree with what you all say, and really it is mostly about getting external traffic.
      
      I'm following a few great people on HP who's writing I love so thanks guys and gals it's nice to be welcomed so warmly.
