   I was about to post on Brenda's Christian Discussion Thread. I am stunned to notice the thread is now closed to replies. How is it possible when christians were only sharing scriptures and discussing their faith? Should the one who chose to attack, insult, and hijack a thread be banned from the forums? Thanks in advance for your response.

      Trolls and bullies can not be prevented from posting in the forums but they can be prevented from hijacking a thread.  Simply ignore their posts.  Nothing is more irritating to a bully then being ignored.  Trolls want to argue and they need to be noticed.  Give them what they want and they will never leave.  The best way to have a meaningful dialog with other posters is to simply stay on topic.  Treat the posts of all the trolls on both sides of the issue as background noise and just tune them out.  No one should feel obligated to reply to any post just because it was directed at him or her.
      
      Just a thought. Feel free to ignore me.

         Hi Quilligrapher, I agree 100 percent. Lol, no need to ignore your post, you're not a troll or a bully.   You are definitely right. I have ignored many of their posts, and some become irritated when I choose not to answer their questions. Sometimes its just not worth the hassle. I appreciate your response.

      Threads may be closed if they are generating a large number of flags, to prevent further issues.  If you notice a thread is becoming increasingly hostile, the best thing you can do is to self-police and try to civilize the conversation to prevent a thread closure.

         Well, that's what we have indeed done before,  and as far as the most recent posts by Randy Godwin, the Christians were civil to him.  Why, like Woman of Courage asked, should our freedom to post in a thread hinge upon whether someone else is rude in it?
         
         
         Matter of fact, I've intentionally ignored Randy's insults, especially since he told me (last year, I believe it was) to not ever even respond to him again.  I'm not sure why, unless maybe he wanted to freely post anti-Christian things without letting me (and maybe others?) respond.  So I've let him be.  I didn't report him (I haven't reported anyone for a long long time, as you know),  and I didn't flag his posts.  Although they were worth flagging! ha.
         
         Is he banned?   And if so, why does that necessitate closing the thread?

         Thanks Maddie for your response. When I noticed the attacks, the thread was already closed. Will hubpages staff consider a better way to handle this without shutting down a great thread? I don't understand how we can prevent a hostile person from attacking and ridiculing someone. I hope hubpages will find an easier way to deal with uncilvilized people making derogatory remarks towards a person.

            HubPages has tried other methods.  Experience indicates that once a thread has "gone bad", it's best to close it and start afresh - it's difficult to get it back on track, even if the original offenders have been banned (which they were in this case).
            
            There is nothing to stop you starting afresh with a new thread.
            
            However, bear in mind this is not exclusively a Christian site.  There are many views and faiths represented here and all of the forum threads are places to debate - which means, a place to challenge opinions.  If you wish to share exclusively with others of the same views, it's much better to find a forum which is designed exclusively for people of that view - which doesn't exist on HP.

               Hi Marissa, I attempted to start afresh when my thread was closed, but it was not the same. I had lost all the lovely posts of the christians who spent their time posting on the original thread. I do understand this is not a christian site. I don't have a issue with someone debating or discussing things in a cilvilized way. No one should be allowed to personal attack another simply because of a disagreement. Thanks for your input.

      Yes, I was shocked Brenda. You are welcome. I once had a nice thread going about God's love. It was rudely hijacked by several unbelievers, and the thread was closed. What a shame. Actually I reported Randy when I noticing he was continually harassing someone on your thread. I am not sure what good that would do.

         I must've not been around when you had that thread;  it IS a shame that it got closed!
         Well, the Christian Discussion thread had a good run!  And that's cool too.  It's not the end of the world that it's closed,  nor is it the end of God's word.  When one door is closed, He opens another, or a window.   I'm actually curious to see what He's got in mind!  (Here, there, or anywhere!) 
         
         In the meantime, there's still plenty of threads for discussion and debate.  Although that one was one of the most peaceful, over-all, considering the amount of posts it had.
         
         Don't be discouraged!
         
         The book of Galatians tells us to not be weary;  we have sown to the Spirit and shall reap life everlasting;  let's not be weary in well doing; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
         
         I'm far from "fainting", aren't you?!  I know you are strong, and courageous; your screen name fits you well!   God bless you my sister-in-Christ.

            Hey Brenda. Yes your thread had a great kickoff for a while. A thread may get shut down, but God's word will never end. I'm curious also. I am encouraged! I'm nowhere near fainting. Thanks sister. We got to keep it moving. God bless you.

   It is what it is.  What I see is that anyone can go in to a thread and cause it to be closed down just because they can.  Time to let it go.
