...and they complain we don't meet our responsibilities

    http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2011/08/ … ed-states/

the Chinese government (or whoever makes such decisions)have their ancient traditions of keeping face and having integrity confused almost as badly as the US government has in being aligned with its own Constitution, Bill of Rights and Laws

Not only is the whole fox-up of a piece wrong in basic numbers it is kite flying big time big_smile   The US debt that China holds is in Trillions of dollars, that makes the few billion relatively insignificant !

The default on bonds comes about with the fall of the government that issued those bonds prior to the Revolution.  The bonds themselves are in many ways a colonial carve up of the spoils which are quite rightfully denied now that the original thieves have been ejected from the country.

I met an old Chinese couple in London who complained bitterly that China has consistently refused their demands to be paid for the land they lost and especially for the indentured-for-life workers (slave labour) that were apparently worth more than the land.  To demand payment for the spoils of colonisation is of the same category.

So if the U.S. had a socialist revolution the PRC wouldn't expect repayment of monies owed?

The U.S. constitution says that our debts must be repaid, no matter who the creditor is. Period. What does yours say?

You're British. That's nice but the issue is why does PRC feel that it can unilaterally  repute certain of the nation's debts because they were incurred by a prior government?

I don't know to be honest, but it might have something to do with the fact that the previous government is still recognised by the US even though it only inhabits Taiwan ?  So if I were Chinese and wanted the US to take its beak out of Chinese business I would tell them to go see Taiwan about it.  But there are many other possible reasons such as the US was one of the colonial powers in China and so able to force unreasonable deals etc.  It has me interested now, so I will go and see if I can't find out something about it.

Great! You don't have to pay back "colonial" nations?

With your annexing of Manchuria, Manchukuo and Tibet - China rates as a colonial power. Right?

              Burn the mortgage.

Maybe we should charge China those trillions PLUS INTERESTS for saving their ass from the Japanese in world war two?

Nice thought if you like to re-write history a bit big_smile  although the US did have a small squadron of fighters there.  The shame of it really is that China had to still fight them out even after the 'world' war had ended !

I have no apologies for the Japanese - they pretty much got what they deserved there.

Not the civilians - but the facts were that the Imperial Japanese were pretty damned hard core, and that whole damned war needed to be over sooner rather than later.

Do you suppose it would have been LESS destructive if the US had had to invade Japan to end the war?  I don't think so - I think there would have been MORE casualties on BOTH sides if that would have happened.
