Generally why are dogs preferred as pets compared to cats?

   This is one of my observations for which the answer I have is that dogs are more faithful and less demanding. Any comments?

      I think dogs have more expressive faces and show empathy more than cats...a dog will come to comfort you if you are visibly upset! That is the winning straaw.
      
      However cats and dogs each have their own set of endearing and adorable characteristics! I love them both!

         cats are also comforters. i have a cat that comes running to see if i am ok if i so much as sneeze or cough...every single time. my cats snuggle if i am feeling sad, they bathe my face to give me comfort and let me know they will love me no matter what.

      cats are less demanding than dogs. cats are also as faithful and loving as dogs. i prefer cats to dogs even tho i used to be a dog person. the reason i think people prefer dogs is because dogs dont threaten their ego the way cats do. cats are more like people than dogs. people like having a pet that has a slave mentality...they dont want one that thinks for itself and has moods like they do.

   I've had both dogs and cats. The litter box is what turns me off from cats. I'd rather pick up doggie doo all day then have a litter box in the house.

   Well, I have a cat and he is very faithful, comes running when I call. I like the fact I don't have to walk him.

   I have had many dogs and cats over the years and each is wonderful in their own way.  I find that cats are no less faithful than dogs, they jump on your bed and climb all over you, rub themselves up against you and purrrrrrr at you.  And dogs can be extremely demanding, especially when you have to get up at 2:00 a.m. because they have to be let out.  It all depends on the individual animal as each has it's own personality and character.

      Maybe for some people it's because dogs are more dependent. Cats, as loving as they can be, tend to be much more independent. Some people like to feel needed.

   I think it is because dogs show, outwardly, how happy they are that you entered the room.  They jump around and wag their tails and bodies!
   Cats show it also but on their own time.  When a cat show you love, it is so cool, quiet collected, but you still feel the love.:p

   I  prefer cats to dogs, and by a wide margin.
   
   Cats command your respect, but dogs are just stupid. I mean, what is intelligent about an animal that licks or sniffs disgusting things he finds on the street?
   
   Cats are above all that. And they don't bark at 4am because the moon cast a shadow.
