We're having a pool party/barbecue with friends and family. I bought some hotdogs and pecan-smoked sausages tonight, and I'm about to go rub four butts for the smoker. Ah, the rubbing of the butts! lol. We'll smoke the butts for about 10-12 hours over pecan wood and apple juice. YUM!!

I'm going to sleep and clean house a bit (new maid starts on Friday). Yes, I know the jokes about cleaning before the maid gets here . . . there's actually a good reason for it, in that she will spend her time doing the stuff I find too time-consuming or difficult as I have bad knees and have trouble getting down . . . and way more trouble getting up.

Hi habee here's a question for you, what is labor day? Being English I have to ask these questions, its because I have a curious streak in me! lol I must know the answer to silly questions! Is it named after a political thingy me doo, or millions of women giving birth???!! ha ha

      Nell,

Although Labor Day is celebrated in the USA on a different day, it is the equivalent to May Day celebrated in the UK.

Nell I hope you and habee will forgive me but I can't resist with this teeming brain full of knowledge bursting forth to enlighten all people. Labor Day over here is celebrated on the first Sunday in Sept. The reason is that on the first Sunday of Sept. in 1952 the most American mothers gave birth. It's a joyous celebration to honor motherhood and all the little Americans born that day. Now Nell, that's what I've always been told but incredibly a vast number of U.S. folk celebrate it for another reason that I'm sure habee will be glad to fill you in on. It's a major conundrum for those who insist it's all about  that record breaking birth- day as opposed to the other theory.  Wishing you sunshine and happiness this Sunday Ms. Nell.

In the U.S., Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday of September every year. It began in the late 1800s as a way to pay tribute to the American work force. It's a federal holiday, so most businesses are closed. Schools and the post office also shut down for the day. It's customary to have cookouts, barbecues, and picnics on Labor Day. The day is often considered the last day of the summer season. When I was a kid, the new school year didn't usually start until the Tuesday after Labor Day.
