I am sure many of you have hopped a hub or two, and came across a hub that is such a load of... hogwash.
Commenting the hub may or may not work. The hubber can always deny your comments.
Flagging it? It's not quite up to THAT level of impropriety.
So... would it be appropriate to "call out" the other hubber by writing a hub specifically to pick apart the other hub? Opinions? Please justify your view.
I would leave your comment first of all, and see if it is allowed. I doubt I would write a rebuttal hub, unless I felt it was going to be a hub that will get a lot of traffic, otherwise I would just leave it to die of "natural" causes.
You can, as long as you don't personally attack the other person in the hub.
This sort of thing has been done before, and it usually ends up with bad feeling between the hubbers in question.
That said, if it is important enough to you, go ahead. What does it matter if another hubber dislikes what you have written? You obviously dislike what this other hubber has written.
So long as there are no persnal attacks involved, I don't see the harm.
PS this is Izzym here and my hub subdomain can from today, have dofollow links!
Hi, Izzy/Isabel - I thought that avatar looked a little familiar! What are you up to with the change?
My main account is sandboxed. This one isn't. I'd planned to write loads of hubs and bring it up a bit, but my imagination isn't working too well at the moment - hence the few hubs
Sort of a follow-up question.
If a specific "rebuttal hub" is uncalled for, what do you folks think of a general "counter-hub", where you simply take the exact opposite viewpoint, and support the view as best as you can?
Just to note: I did write several of these "general counter-hubs".
I joined Hubpages basically to post an article I wrote to rebut some of the "cheerleader" hubs I found that promotes a particular scam (you know which one if you read my profile) and have stayed here ever since.
Countering or rebutting a hub must be ok if you have an opposing point of view. Direct action would only really be called for if the hub was promoting something dangerous - like the one I saw that basically said that cancer was punishment for sins of the sufferer and could be cured by prayer.
Why waste your energy writing a rebuttal when the Hubber/s in question are not attacking you personally, If the hubs are sub standard they will be removed by the hubpages team.
flag and vote down the hubpages staff will get to them in time......jimmy
You'd be surprised by the amount of dumb hubs around here. Let's see... The "Apple iPhone 5 Review" hub comes to mind. (How the **** do you review a phone that's not out yet?! It's clearly keyword squatting.)
Oh that was so much more than keyword squatting! That hub you reference got 1000s of no doubt self-generated backlinks and ended up #1 on Google for a product that is much-searched for but not yet released.
The usernamne, if I remember correctly, only had one hub.
Not a writer, then, but a marketer, or someone with enough money to pay for backlinks.
I'm in two minds over all this.
I'm here to make money, but I am also a writer. Both were never syonymous. Writers are traditionally poor.
You need to be a marketer at this game also.
I think someone was just testing the waters.
They won!
If I had very strong feelings about the matter, then I might consider writing an opposing hub. Not specifically a rebuttal naming the offending hub or hubber, but I would try to tailor my hub in a way that would make it come up on the related hubs for the offending one.
So if the hub had the title "A cures X"
I might do one with the title "A does not cure X, B might help", or whatever.
Of course that also means the offending hub would show up as being related to mine. I would therefore have to be very sure of my facts, have evidence backing my statements and write the hub as well I possibly can so as to convince readers who look at both.
No harm in it. However, I personally would be reluctant to go down that pathway. There are just too many opinions that I disagree with.
Busting common myths is not a bad idea for a hub though, if you can find decent keywords/keyphrases that express what you want to write about, methinks.
This is hubpages. People write content to make a few bucks. They are not writing to lay their souls out for everyone to see and particulate.
Personally I would not do it. I see you have a few blogs of your own. Just think what one or two million porn site casino backlinks could do to it with a quick xrumer or ScrapeBox blast. That takes about 2 seconds to set up. Also maybe someone might put your adsense pub id on a particular type of site and its bye bye adsense for you.
Always remember, you might feel good about writing a rebuttal, but then again it might be your last venture on the net. You never know who your picking and you might pick the wrong guy or girl
I would not risk that! The idea about being involved on the internet is to be a QUIET achiever, not the mouth.
To justify my view, your profile leaves a huge footprint. If it were me, I would retaliate the best way I know how. People don't get there and go, "Oh dear, he is right and I am wrong". No they get their back up and defend.
It is never a good idea to retaliate against another writer simply because you do not agree with their statements. It is much better to just write a hub that is better written and more appropriate. Some of the writers here are new writers or are just learning to write. Bashing them does not encourage them to become better writers. You can gently point out their mistakes but do so in a constructive manner.
What I would do is write the hub but leave out the other hubbers's name. Also include in the hub the resources you use to come by your facts and make sure your hub is not an attack on the other hubber...like no name calling or anything. Just a good article with facts included.

In terms of philosophy or theology something like this:X is a mistaken position for reasons A,B,C. This Hub is an example of that position, lets do a point by point dissection of it (while not infringing on copyright) while pointing out the problems in their reasoning. Is that doable? Will it get...

What's the single most important piece of advice you would give to a new hubber? What do you know now that you wished you'd know/ or been told when you started? What's the single most important piece of advice you would give to a new hubber?

Recently, there was a thread of someone complaining about Hub of the Days lacking amazing writing skills. Their complaint stated the Hubs being selected were because they were niche driven and 'how too's' instead of stellar writing from the soul. The day he posted that, it was my hub that was...

I'm just wondering as a newbie here (four weeks yesterday, if my math is right ) if it's common practice for hubbers to write hubs with the intent of ridiculing or tearing apart other hubbers? I've recently experienced this and handled it in my own way well enough (I think--I posted a rebuttal...

Just had a big drop on my profile score. And all my hubs were featured along with a steady 10 Editors Choice. I say 'were' because 3 were just unfeatured and I don't know what to do about that. My views are over 945,000. Boo-hoo. Hubpages doesn't love me anymore!

Is HubPages trying to discourage its writers and get them to quit writing?Every time I publish a hub my Hubber score goes down then it goes up by 1-2 points and then down by 1-2 points. Then when I am not on here for a day or two it goes down by more than 2 points. This is very...
