Over the Labor Day weekend (actually, just on Monday), 4 of my hubs suddenly got unpublished with the tag "dubious offer".

The problem is, NONE of the hubs have any dubious offers in them! All of them are CRITICAL of MLM, and mentioned no specific MLM other than citing historical cases such as FTC vs. Amway, FTC. vs. Koscot, and FTC. vs Omnitrition which established what makes MLM legal and so on. Any MLMs mentioned are cited as NEGATIVE examples!

Argh! Already wrote to team@hubpages.com requesting review, but it's annoying and frustrating!

You have the cart before the horse.  Please tell us what is happening after HP advises you.  I have had a lot of hubs published, but not received the "dubious" label, but have had various other advisories.  Be calm, be patient, you will soon get a reply...Bob

Someone probably flagged it, and it was then reviewed, after which it was deemed inappropriate. Ideally, you should try to scan through your content and make any necessary corrections. If you're certain that you haven't made any "dubious offers" you could just ask the editor to cite just one example. Been there, done that. If nothing else works. just go ahead an publish it elsewhere.

      P.S. Chill!!!

Did you have any links in the articles? If so, they may have been construed as links to get people into MLMs.

However it's not unusual for automatic content filters to look for words such as "MLM" and "Amway" and use them as flags to unpublish hubs.

Hopefully you'll have the issue resolved by the team shortly.

Looked over one of them from top to bottom. It has two links to Amway, but only as illustration on

      1) legitimate MLM have "code of ethics" (links to Amway's version),

      and

      2) legitimate MLM have high profit margin and pays commission on sales, not recruiting (links to Amway's compensation plan).

LESSON LEARNED: Even linking to a real MLM as example on what a legitimate one look like is verboten.

Just heard back from HP team.

According to them, even advice on how to pick legitimate MLMs is considered "dubious offer". Clearly, there is no such thing as legitimate MLM on HP. smile

Not that I disagree with them though... But I can see how some MLMers will be screaming about this.

    Hello KC,

As you have stated, these hubs not only criticize MLMs but "...offers advice on how to pick legitimate ones." This is considered promotion of dubious offers, and is not permitted on HubPages. Let us know if you have any questions.

    Dear HP,

I am kschang on HP. Several of my MLM criticism hubs were moderated on
as "dubious offers", and I don't know why. There was not a SINGLE link
to an existing MLM in these hubs! In fact, all of them are CRITICAL of
such programs, and urges caution, and offers advice on how to pick
    legitimate ones!
