Can anybody help me know about the American educational system??

   Can you tell me how is American educational system?? Like about the way of markings or grades, terms/semesters systems, how students are being taught at school, books and notebooks, conduction of other extra curriculum activities etc. I need some info. Let me know whatever you know....

   It varies all over the place from district to district and school to school. And if media reports are any indication, the whole thing is a major mess.

   As a retired teacher, I can tell you a little, but like Para said, it varies from place to place. What grade level do you want to know about?

   you can go to each states education department website for official standards.. then pick a county or city school and read their information.
   There are also parent rating sites such as Greatschools.org to read what others are saying.
   that's a start; pick a place.

   Sneha, it really does vary from state to state (and sometimes from school district to school district). American schools vary considerably. In general, elementary school is from approximately kindergarten - 5th grade. Middle school is from 6th grade - 8th grade, and high school (secondary school) is from 9th - 12th grade. Even the grade levels vary, however: some middle schools go from 4th-8th grade, some go from 7th-9th grade, and some only consist of 7th and 8th grades.
   
   In our district, elementary school starts with universal Pre-K (approximately age 4) and ends at grade 5. Middle school starts at 6th grade and goes through 8th grade - children begin having multiple teachers at this stage and generally have English, science, math, history, physical education, and some sort of elective (which may be art, music, etc).
   
   Since schools vary so much from locality to locality, the classes offered are different. Some schools may offer a marching band, others may not. Some high schools may offer calculus and advanced physics - others may not have the resources to offer these classes.
   
   Grading varies by the area and the grade level as well. Early elementary grades are generally not assigned "A" "B" "C" grades - our school uses an "S" for satisfactory and an "N" for needs improvement until the 3rd or 4th grade. After that, they go to A, B, C grades. Again, this varies by the school district.
   
   Our school year starts in early September and ends the last week of June. We have four quarters to the school year, with report cards issued for each quarter. Again, this varies from area to area. Some schools in other cities go year-round, operate with "block" scheduling, etc.
   
   Your question is hard to answer because there is no one "method" for educating children in the USA. It really does vary widely from state to state (and city to city)!
