Shame! According to API a change in Obama's energy policy could create 1.4 million jobs, add 800 billion to government coffers, and make America completely energy independent.

his speech was so ridiculous....it makes me sick.....it was the same old thing and just a tool to use to campaign against republicans. Interesting that a guest of his was the CEO of GE whom just made a deal with China and gave them a ton of jobs and our technology....the same CEO is obama's chief council on jobs

How can he expect republicans to support a bill where every single provision is designed to funnel taxpayer money to constituencies that support him? His plan isnt about the economy or saving jobs, except his own!

Why should he buy votes that he's already assured of?
Surely if he were buying votes he would channel the money to marginal seats at least?

maybe to secure them from unions as one of the largest union reps was a guest at the speech

He has to keep them happy. It's the very reason he complained about having to pass trade agreements, when several are sitting on his desk for years now because the unions are against them. If Obama offered a plan that didn't provide unions with jobs he might lose their support, something he can't afford.

exactly! As I tried to write a piece on this I found it very difficult as there was no plan and it made me mad....I did but he is just an idiot!

You're right on this one, La_Lo.
The Republicans will only vote for bills that favor the constituent companies and industries that support THEM.
Oddly enough, these are different companies/industries than support Obama.
No law against pandering to one's base.
And now, thanks to our infinitely capitalistic SCOTUS, there's no law against one's base lining one's pockets, either.

It's a function of business.to make a profit, but that shouldn't be at the expense of the American people. Was it right for Obama to talk about products with "made in America" stamped on them while Jeff Immelt of GE who sits on Obamas job counsel, sitting in Obama's guest box while his comoany ships jobs and technology to China? Was it right for Obama to talk about "loopholes" for corporations in the Tax Code with the CEO of GE, a company that made 5 billion in profit and paid NO income tax as his guest? Or is it even right for Obama to talk about jobs for Americans with AFL-CIO president Trumka in his guest box while Obama's NLRB seeks to prevent Boeing from creating 1000s of jobs in SC while Trumka's striking goons damage property, and create violent confrontation on the docks in Washington? This after Hoffa called for violence on working Americans that don't agree with Obama's socialist views.

The problem is that we could be energy dependent if they would quit making new regulations on drilling for oil and gas. Think of the jobs that would result from that. Instead of trying to grow our productivity he bans  the drilling in the Gulf. Yes it was a bad that there was an oil spill in the gulf. But learn from this and move on. It got cleaned up. The price of gas is getting worse. Instead of becoming more independent we are getting more dependent on other countries oil.  We have one of the largest Natural gas reserves in the world in the Marcellus shale. Why don't they learn how to use this in automobile's. Instead they are allowing foreign company's to buy the rights from us and we are going to Export Natural Gas to other Country's? There is something backwards here.

      Absolutely right!!

If scientists were able to bottle up all the hot gas that comes from the various orifices of GOP members, America would have enough to meet its needs for the next 100 years.

Not only that, but in the near future, as the dinosaurs in the Republican party die away, the potential fossil fuels from their corpses could be a windfall !

    Drill, baby, Drill!

    Simple: Increase Drilling...Increase Jobs!

Although...I believe we should have diversified into my different alternatives to help reduce our consumption of Oil...by now...and lessen it's byproduct effects. Oil is still a necessity and fact of life. Depending on others to supply it drives up the cost...Pure and simple. Oil companies, like all companies who are heavily regulated, have demonstrated that they will go elsewhere for Oil. In otherwords...you stop them on the Gulf...they go to Brazil. It takes about as long as it takes to sail from the Gulf to Brazil. And yes...I do care about the environment. There are many procedures to go in unobtrusive into many parts of lands we hold in the US. Plus, new technology has allowed us to get more Oil from areas full of shale....to increase the amount of Oil we have on hand...in our own lands (US).

Obama purposely left out the Energy component to economic recovery for obvious reasons: You don't remind people of your failures or bad judgement when giving a self-promoting re-election speech...As in his support and financial investment in Solyndra which recently declared bankruptcy after receiving 500 million dollars from government assured loans...and laid off 1500 employees..

Obama promised that his administration would create beautiful green jobs: well paid, stable, abundant jobs, unionized, with full benefits and making the earth healthier and the American people richer.  Evergreen Solar Inc., which received unknown amounts of green stimulus funds on the hope that it would create “between 90 and 100 jobs” two years ago, filed for bankruptcy this week, $485.6 million in debt. Their Massachusetts plant once employed 800 people, in March it was replaced with a factory in Wuhan, China.

That's why no mention of " green " jobs...

I burn wood pellets for heating my home during the winter,Bye Bye Gas company. If I had reasonably priced solar panels on my roof ,Bye Bye Electric company. Do you actually think that lobbyists for the energy companies will let that happen?

They won't even allow a wind-farm on Nantucket Shoals. 10+ years of court-battles.
    Koch in the forefront.
But he doesn't mind dirtying up other parts of the world for his company..as long as he doesn't have to deal with the garbage. That's for the "other" people of the world.
Much like oil refineries and dirty polluting companies are placed in poor parts of towns.

Now this fracking thing. Polluting the underground, but who cares? And who benefits? Koch! ie Tea-Party funder extraordinaire.

Ah Polluting the underground. for every piece of proof you could show of this. i could  counter this. China is the worst offender of pollution in the world and  yet we buy all kinds of products from them. Make China become environmentally friendly and see how much goods cost from there. That would never happen with their form of government. Do you think China is worried about the environment. The first group of Chinese
who tried to protest that would end up with a bullet in their head and dropped into a hole. There is a line that has to be drawn between what is needed and what can be done about being environmentally friendly. It can be done.

Not when you throw road-blocks in every way possible...with all the money possible at your disposal: Something the oil industry has been doing for decades.
