I love it. Last year's attempt to reconnect with younger viewers was a flop. With the Oscars, the best formula is to stay with the tried and true veterans of stage and screen. Edifier has been in the business for YEARS. Bravo.

I think it will be great, I sure some of the younger readers do not even know he was an outstanding stand up comedian....only 30 years ago.  I think he will do a great job....anything is better than the Hathaway/Franco mess last year.

This should be interesting.  I'm going to watch it next year just to see what he will do.

Hopefully we'll see some of his young comedy genius come back.

Yeah, I think it's been long enough that many people have forgotten how funny he can be.

    Is he still working? smile

I don't know if he'll be great or now, we shall have to see.

I think it's best to have comedian's as hosts of the Oscars like Steve Martin and others. They seem to handle it best.

    But Anne simply says...

Ah ah nah nah... Won't be as entertaining as last year's!

I mean... what could POSSIBLY go wrong with an out-of-control, hysterical Anne Hathaway and a boring concrete-faced James Franco. RIGHT???!!!!

I think this is an example of the Academy Awards trying to please  the audience at home-not sure it  will work-while the audience in the theatre will wonder why.

Eddie Murphy's a good, solid choice.
Agree with UW gotta have a comedian/comedienne.
There are only a handful of people (IMHO) who could handle that gig:
    Steve Martin
    Alec Baldwin
    Tina Fey
    Amy Poehler
    Billy Crystal
    Conan O'Brien
    Jimmy Fallon
Stephen Colbert (bonus if co-hosting with Jon Stewart)
    Bill Maher
    Ellen Degeneres
    Maybe Ben Stiller

I'd love to see Kristin Wiig do it. It would be over the top!

How about Howie Mandel and Robin Williams together? That would be insane, who would care about the awards? smile

I was watching the news when it was announced that the Oscars was gonna be hosted by a 'Celebrety Comedian."  My first though was"So What?"  Aren't the Oscars Always hosted by a celebrety comedian?!  Anyway I think Eddie Murphy will do an adequete job.
