Slaves Freed in England

   Three men and a woman have been arrested in Bedfordshire, England for running a slave trade.  24 slaves have been freed, some of whom have been kept for 15 years in filthy conditions.  It is shocking to discover that 203 years after the slave trade was abolished, that it still continues in a Western democracy.

      How long will this last? when will it stop! Open your eyes, we are all humans and to call them slave is not a human act.

   How in the world do you keep 24 slaves without anyone knowing? And some for fifteen years. That's amazing and horrid, but I guess it is possible everywhere.
   
   I often worry about how quickly we would revert without laws holding some back. I don't think we are as civilized as we would like to believe.

   This was only unlicenced slavery - Walmart and other multinationals have it legalised.
   
   It would not be so hard to enslave some people - I ran a landscape gardening business many years ago and out of around 24 employed people 3 were in that condition before they worked for me. 
   One from Scotland was sold as a child to a family who kept him in the pig sty and fed him with the pigs while working him hard all day on the land (mid 1960's)
   Another (around 1970) worked for the local big landowner, and local Councillor, in his house/estate for only board and food - he 'escaped' when the guy blew his own head off in his greenhouse while dressed in woman's clothes.
   The third one was a little 'simple' and was a Jehova's Witness and working for me was the first time he had ever been paid for working before,  the previous 8 or 9 years he had been working for one or other of the 'brethren' in a saw mill and on the land.
   
   Generally these were normal enough guys except that they had become trapped while still children and grown up in that situation.

      I've known of people in the U.S. using illegal immigrants in similar ways.

   Nine of the freed slaves are refusing to help police with their enquiries.  They must have been so conditioned that they can't believe they are free.  They had been kept in a shed for years, suffering from malnutrition.  I have read that in Western Europe, there is a big slave trade, which I find amazing in this day and age.

   This was a Travellers Caravan site, the people who were holding the men were foriegn, and the Slaves were white English men who lived on the streets and were given a 'job'. it is appalling, but sadly it seems that slavery comes in all sizes and races.
