Is there really a person set for us before we were born?

   In my own belief and opinion, our lifetime partner was preset before we were born. That God created and prepared a person for us when the perfect time comes. And when that time comes, your choice and decision do matter depending whether you would accomplish God's plan or not. It's true that we are not created as a robot. The predetermined plan of God is still there, hanging in the air. We design our own destiny and we are all bound to accomplish it, depending on the choice we make.

      Howdy, Sarasotadui.  How nice to run into you again.
      
      My intellect, as wanting as it may be, tells me that predestination and individual free will can not co-exist unless you re-define one or both terms to achieve a specific goal.  A person who abandons their freedom of choice in order to follow an unknown plan designed by God has agreed to be a slave to that plan and no longer possesses free will. Such a person does indeed become a voluntary programmed robot.

         Very true Quilligrapher.
         We are have freewill so that we can also find our happiness.God is there seeing what our actions are, and whatever the consequences of our choice may be, I believe that He will not let us fall, as long as we know how to call His name.
         
         God is perfectly good, He loves us, and we can always pray for Him to give us wisdom so that we can see clearly see if "what we have known to be the "right one" is the "one"  coming from his heart.

      absolute nonsense.  and fertility gods don't make us pregnant either.  The sooner we (society) accept responsibility for our choices, the better we all will be.  These old notions were the way people historically tried to understand the world before we had scientific explanations.  Now there may be some truth to the idea that if we are not consciously aware of ourselves and our choices, we are in some respects destined to repeat the errors of our ancestors and act on instinctual and animalistic drives rather than using our human intellect.

         I agree with this - I would also say that the religious insistence on predetermination is just the stupid trying to keep others as stupid as themselves.
         
         The amount of free will we have is dependant entirely on our being aware of ourselves - our inherited characteristics will drive us in one direction, our learned behaviours will drive us in another - but what we do on that journey is up to us.  Any attempt to make something other than ourselves responsible is just copping out so that we can do what we want.

   Of course there is a person waiting to receive the new baby and it goes through its predetermined life on a fixed track with all its various choices pre planned and pre ordained to meet its pre ordained mate to have pre ordained children in its totally pointless godcomputer driven existence - get a life !

   a) I don't believe in fate.
   b) We constantly change, which means that our demands in a perfect other half must also change as well.

   I believe that there are those whose paths we cross are, many times, souls whose paths we've crossed in other lives. I don't know about destined to be together. I've made some serious errors in judgement over the years because I felt so strongly pulled to people I had no reason to other than a recognized psychic bond.
   
   I don't believe in destiny. Maybe it's simple aversion to the thought of someone else making plans for me without my input.

   If there is a predestined "someone"  we still have to find our way.  Yes, I believe that God also gives us a discerning spirit to "feel out" what is right for us..but many of us are not exactly in tuned with that inner voice.   
   
   ( we  probably have to kiss a lot of toads before we find our real prince.)
   
   Which is why I love the song by Savage Garden that says "I knew I loved you before I met you...I feel I dreamed you into life"

      Many of us are not actually in tuned to that inner voice. A voice that comes out through proper discernment, meditation and prayer.
      
      But, it is still very difficult to find that somebody who is predestined to be our lifetime partner. We always make wrong turns and another wrong turns. We always fail. We get frustrated. And the reason of those frustrations is simply, "WE HAVEN'T FIND THE RIGHT PERSON WHO IS PREPARED FOR US YET."

   If God has created and prepared a person just for you, then it would seem that that person is little more than a puppet for you to find.
   
   Just a little egocentric isn't it?  You maintain free will and choice but the one prepared for you cannot do that or they would no longer be the "right" one just for you.
   
   Or do you feel that you have been created, prepared and guided down a particular path to make you the one that someone else may choose or not as they see fit?
