I just got an email from a "friend" on FB. They say starting tomorrow there will be a monthly charge placed on FB accounts ranging from $10 a month for the Gold Membership, $7 for silver and $4 Bronze. DON'T FALL FOR IT! It appears this is a hoax that is just intended to cause a freak-out session for the site.

    Happy Hubbing!

Discard the email and think no more about it, it is not true, If it were it would have been all over the tv and radio news.....jimmy

Good to get the heads up!  There's something going on with PayPal, too, in that an email from them says to completely restart your account. It seems hijacking the big online names is the latest hoax strategy.

They would lose a lot from Small Businesses advertising with them if they were to charge sign up.

yeah, i agree with you there.  not only that, but it would probably lose many of it's users as well.  therefore, I doubt seriously facebook would ever start charging a monthly fee.

I agree, no one would use FB if there was a fee.  They know that.  They're smarter than we are.

My conclusion is that it is up right there with the FBI ARREST warning I received earlier today.

Serious that the hoax was in play, but the reality is that this was simply someone trying to freak people out by messing with FB. I must admit, I was a smidgen startled at first until I asked around.

I had seen that on FB it started out as a joke and then someone changed it and placed fear in others. FB would not charge anyone for there site. I really hope people did not fall for that. Common sense tells you that would have never happened. smile

This has been around for years, in one form or another.  Facebook makes money much in the same way as other free companies do: through advertising and data mining.  They'd be crazy to start charging..

According to Snopes.com, it all started in 2009: Snopes.Com: Facebook

It's actually similar to a hoax that has been around for over a decade. I remember receiving emails saying Bill Gates had decided to start charging everyone for using email, and it was going to cost them 5 cents for every message sent or received, and the only way to avoid it was to forward the email to a certain number of people. Stupid people fall for stupid hoaxes.

The Facebook page on Facebook itself has refuted it will start charging, some people don't appreciate what they read sometimes, that it is not truth.

Yup. Delete the mail; sit back and take a chill pill. Facebook is never going to do such a stupidity, especially when the GAME HAS ENTERED IN THE ARENA - Google+
