Do you support the "Americans Elect " 3rd party movement?

   I read about this yesterday and must admit, I felt optimistic for the first time in a long time.
   Anyone else think a centrist candidate outside the 2-party system, nominated by the PEOPLE, is a smart idea?
   Why or why not?

   I don't think it would work. In our system, the coalition building always happens before the election. Unless it got some huge infusion of cash from somewhere, I think it would be a small party that never gains power.
   
   Ironic, since most Americans are in the center...but...
   
   I'm personally hoping that the GOP nominates some crazy, right-wing loon like Perry or Bachmann, he/she gets trounced in the polls, and they return to the center, so we can have meaningful debates on policy again. It's been a long time.

      That's the wild thing about Americans Elect.
      This movement IS being funded -- in significantly large $$ amounts.
      What I read said that big name donors are maintaining their privacy (for obvious reasons).
      IDK.
      There is a lot of disenchantment with Obama, and not all of it can be blamed on the Tea Party influence on Congress.
      
      Third-party "spoilers" have had an impact on elections in the past (although I don't any,including Perot) have actually "lost" an election for anyone.
      
      It's an interesting concept, anyway.

         Yes, an interesting concept.
         
         I wonder if it actually got steam how it would really change things.
         
         I'm not sure I'd want yet another party to the right of Obama - to me, he's already quite far enough to the right - but maybe that's just me.

      well i read the article and no one knows who is donating and who is the candidate yet.

            He wrote a book called How the Rich Can Save America (or something like that)...saw him on a panel with Ted Turner.
            
            The thing is.....I voted for him--was sick of both "corporate parties". But til the day my dad died, he always said: "Thanks a lot...you helped elect Bush."
            
            Vote of conscience???? And look at the result.
