There were frequent reports of the membership of the Security Council to accept Palestine as a full member of the UN.

I certainly hope so. They will never have any rights otherwise.

I don't think their bis will get past the security council, and I think Abbas knows that. But, I do think when they approach the general assembly for no EU observer status, it will be granted.

From my understanding LMC, and it's very limited here. They're applying for EU member status, but out of the big five, which includes the US and Israel, only one has to veto for the bid to be rejected (in terms of the security council that is). However, Palestine can go to the general assembly after rejection and apply for non EU observer status. They do not have to approach the security council for this. I've read and heard, so I'm not saying this is gospel, that 2/3 rds of the general assembly are in favor of this. What this means for Palestine, if granted, is that they are then in a position to start court proceedings ( of the international court that is) against Israel for war crimes but specifically individual settlers for annexation of land. Which, I think, is why Netanyahu, not specifically Israel, is warning the Palestinians against this. Which kind of makes sense, in terms of why Netanyahu is warning them against this. There's no way in my opinion, that Palestine will get the original vote past the SC, so why does N feel so threatened by it?

I've read quite a lot about this, but my knowledge is very limited here LMC. There'll be someone who knows a lot more, this is just my understanding of what's happening.

Hmmm, well, this whole thing reminds me of the Native Americans going to the UN to get Sovereignty, as the US gvt would not budge with them either.

Really, they are just begging for crumbs at this point. And it's sad that it has come to this.

There is no way Israel can ever recover from this despicable behavior, imo.
And people can call me a Jew-hating anti-semite all they like.

What they have done is WRONG. As wrong as the Nazi's did to them, but they just keep playing the gd victim.

People are people dammit. NO ONE is better!!

LMC, I've never, ever suggested that you are a Jew hater. What I'm saying is, that Palestine, specifically Abbass, has found a way around the situation. That is based on legality and not war. I'm paraphrasing here, but I recently read that ' The only other options we have, other than war, which is too costly for the Palestinians and the Israelis, is this bid.'

Non EU observer status will give the right to the Palestinians to make legal challenges. Instead of being kicked into the long grass, hope.

Imagine that......having to go to court to get people to stop stealing your land....to get re-dress for the unconscionable living conditions...while it just goes on and on and on.

        It's sad beyond sad.

And we, America......we defend, arm and pay for it.

and I was not accusing you Hollie. I know better.

I know, it's a sad state of affairs, but the thing is, we are where we are. How can we move forward, so that the situation in the Middle East becomes an awful part of our World history but one which we have overcome? I think, and this is my humble opinion, that progress will be made. I think a deal will be thrashed out in maybe a year, two years. I know that's a long time, but it's coming LMC, it is. Peace.
