I have read several Q&A comment strings by hibbers asking how to use the Amazon product widgets on articles, I have gotten some mixed messages from the responses I have read to these questions. Some people say can not be used, and others try to provide instructions on how to use them. After having trying to use them in my Amazon capsule, I am leaning toward the can not use theory, and thinking that those providing instructions may be talking about product ads and not widgets. Any real solid experience with this subject, and a solid answer about the product carousel widgets would be very helpful. Thanks, to anybody who may have some insight.

Thanks all, I think all these answers have helped me to draw a conclusion. Too bad I really liked the carousel widget.

You can't add any widgets to HubPages. You can only use Amazon capsules or have direct links to Amazon.

You will find a lot of bad advice on here these days sadly smile

seriously - I agree with uninvited writer but if we all spend a few minutes each day hopping and flagging we can weed out some of the crap on here smile

Thanks, Everyone!  I've just started my first Hub and am getting used to the sights and sounds.  I also use Squidoo.  Trying to figure out Amazon Affiliate stuff has been--a nightmare.  Rhetorical question?  If these sites, such as HubPages and Squidoo, want to incorporate and encourage Amazon Affiliates and they spend the time and money developing integration, then why don't they go the whole hog and allow us to use ALL the tricks and tap dances that AmazonAffiliates offers?

Grouch: I want to use my Carousel Widget! It's mine; I spent a lot of time making the bloomin' thing, and I want to use it and make money. Grrr.  /grouch

    Thanks again.   - MarkInLondon

The problem with allowing use of widgets is that this opens the window for users to use their own Javascript or other scripting languages (usually a widget requires HTML or Javascript to be placed on the site). Thus, you'll get a whole bunch of pop up ads, and potentially dangerous content from unscrupulous users.

Squidoo used to allow iframes, but the problem is that it's too easy to code ANYTHING into iframes, including malware and spy software that collects info from people's computers.

And it wouldn't help to say, "Allow iframe codes if it's from Amazon," because someone could just take Amazon's codes and embellish them.

So Squidoo allows Amazon Associates image and text links, because they're straight HTML, but not the combo links which include a script. Same problem with a lot of other affiliate links.
