As an American I am always stymied by the lack of attention we pay to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that we are waging everyday in that war torn region. The press does not feature it as the lead in very many stories unless there is a IED strike or some diplomat gets caught in a cross fire on the way to the embassy fortress we have built over there.
There are more than body counts that should be the lead and the corruption of the local leaders is not carried out for fear that some state department official will lose his or her job. Leaders with what appear to be their mobs are connected and the military that we are training is never going to be able to support the puppet government we have backed for the last ten years.
I really think that we should have our press report all that is going on including the caskets of our dead and the wounded being wheeled off the plane so that we are constantly reminded that war is not as antiseptic as the movies and video games portray.
These wars are killing many people and financially it is killing us. Oh not the military contract companies or the politicians with the campaign donations from the like but John Q public is the one footing the bill.
Remember what this region and its resilience did to the Russians? Well we have fallen into the same trap with our arrogance and greed as a footnote. Bin Laden is still relevent today as he was in 2001 when he kicked the stone down the hill.
I think alot of people like to avoid the harsh realities of war because of all of the other issues we face in the economy, healthcare, and education. The war adds another striking blow of reality that at times we want to ignore. But I agree we shouldn't ignore the enormous amounts of people dying because of the war or the ridiculous amount of money we lose by staying over there. Regardless of what you think of the war, the soldiers do need our support.
Absolutely the soldiers need our support but what audacity it is to ask them to risk their lives for any cause that is less than worthy of their sacrifice. To continue down this path is lunacy.
I think we should never fall into the guilt we have for the way we treated our Vietnam Veterans and somehow morf that guilt into a way of legitimizing these senseless wars.
These wars are corrupt from their inception to their resolve no matter what way the governments candy coat them.
What is funny about this post is that for the most part all of the people that responded to it (2) seem to be the only ones that get it.
Still nothing?
It is funny how we have been seduced into this apathetic attitude about it while the troops risk all for it.
Shame on us all.
the idea of a legal war perpetuates its practice . we didn't invent war if we stopped it would still be here. in a world at constant war . you wana be the best at it . that or get run over. you prefer a rusty army?
If the approach is that there will always be wars then we might as well be the best at it would be fine except that we have perpetrated war for gain. If you think that the reasons behind these wars is based on some moral high ground you have burried your head deeply in the sand.
The military industrial complex assures us that we can remain on top of any foe by selling us the latest and greatest weapons to execute it and the oligarcal government we elect every year cements the deal.
I do agree that a rusty army is not a good thing but the effort by which we exercise that muscle is too easily sprung.

Alan Grayson is one heckuva BAMF. I doubt this will get passed, but it's a fascinating idea.Grayson's speech:Mr. Speaker. Today I introduce H.R.5353: the "War Is Making You Poor Act." The "War Is Making You Poor Act" does three things: first, it requires the administration to...

Are we the American Public allowed to know what the ROGs are (or Rules Of Engagement )for the current war? I am really interested in hearing what we think they are and what they really are. I would love for a Soldier or a Vet of the Iraq war to share with me what the ROGs are, how they effected the...

In what ways is the USA military different than ISIS?Politically incorrect I guess to ask but curious what others think. American army follows orders without question, bomb and kill civilians, attempts to control other countries, would die for their cause, believe our killing is somehow justified,...

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate how the USA stands in the eyes of the world today?
