Turning off Hub Ads and the Plunge

   My secondary account has suffered a 95% drop in traffic over the weekend -presumably as a result of the latest Panda run (Oct 13th).  I have turned Hub ads off on this account but I'm still getting the 40% Hub Pages share with full ads.  I there for wonder whether turning them off is going to make any difference.
   
   My question is, if the Googlebot checks my site and sees the HubPages share then the full ads are still there.  This means I may be penalised for too much advertising even when I turn them off.  Could this explain the plunges some people are getting?  It could be pot luck whether the Googlebot sees adsense only or the 'Full Monty' from the Hubpages share.
   
   This is a long shot but what do others think?
   
   What do HubPages Staff think - are there too many adverts and is this triggering a penalty on some accounts?

   I don't think so, although of course I have nothing to substantiate that claim. Loads of sites have been hit that don't have all those ads, so its not just a Hubpages thing.

      Good point Izzy - also there were plenty of 'plungers' before the recent extra ads.

   I noticed the past 4 or 5 days my earnings went from great to almost nothing.  Not just on hubpages but on webanswers to and I was doing great.  Now nothing I thought it was a holiday or something so did we have anther panda?

      Yes another Panda on the 13th. It is being called 'a minor update' instead of Panda 2.6, but it's anything but minor judging by the sheer numbers of sites that have been decimated by it.

   My traffic seems to be returning today.  My primary (Rik) account is more or less normal again while my secondary account with the 95% traffic drop has risen to around 70% of normal again now.  Hopefully my problems are just the new algorithm settling down rather than a Google penalty.

   I don't know if I should say this for fear of having a plunge but I have seen only a steady rise in traffic since changing over to my subdomain. I had the initial surge then my traffic has continued to climb slowly but steadily (three times pre-panda levels)
   I have the HP-Ads on, and they do not seem to have reduced my views at all, my traffic for this last week is slightly higher than the previous.
   
   My Hubs are mainly informational with some Amazon on each but not a huge amount...

   yes there was Google panda updates 2.5 so many sites reduce traffic due to this . i think Google wants why other Search King not coming so he now become that Boss , which always right, may be he wrong.

      Maybe breakingnews is saying: Google released Panda 2.5 which reduced traffic to many sites. There are no leaders in search so Google has appointed itself as the boss. Google thinks they are always right. I think they are wrong.

         Well done!  That makes perfect sense now.
         
         PS: My earnings on both accounts are back to normal.  My problem was the change when the new algorithm kicked in at the weekend rather than a Google penalty.

      My hubs had a slight bump up in traffic over the past few days, but traffic to my blogs went down a little.

         I've seen about a 20% increase ever since the 10th.  I keep expecting it to drop back, but it isn't happening.  About the only thing it fits in with is that the spiders began visiting again around that time after a period of not crawling hardly any at all.

   As far as I can tell, it's nearly impossible to make any sense of these Panda updates as they relate to our subdomain pages here at HubPages.
   
   I've been in the tank for the past month until October 13.  The first day I started receiving any Google traffic in nearly a month was on October 14 (went from an average of 3 pageviews a day from Google to 50 on the 14th, 70 on the 15th, and 71 on the 16th).
   
   This bump is still horrible considering I have 90 Hubs, but at least it looks like I've temporarily graduated from the sandbox to the dirt!
   
   I don't think the amount of advertising has anything to do with the traffic patterns.  I see tons of third party sites ranking quite well for search terms on Google and they have hardly any unique content outside of that contained within their sales advertisements.
   
   From a personal perspective, I have a few Squidoo sales lenses (written in the past few months) that have over 100 combined links to Amazon and eBay alongside Chitika Ads, text link ads, and Adsense (per 300 - 500 words of unique content).  Yes, I even have Google news capsules on these lenses and they perform significantly better than my Hubs.  Additionally, the traffic patterns are much more uniform and consistent day in and day out.
