Give me some feed back about this.  I have come across a lot of people asking me about my hair and my daughter's hair.

What's wrong with your hair?  What's to overcome?  Wear a hat if it bothers you.smile

I don't think it is your responsibility to educated others about "your hair!"  Direct them to the internet where there is tons of information.  Let them do their own homework!

I first went natural in the 70's!  I loved my hair...it was the time of James Brown's, "Say it Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud," and the Black Panthers!  It was the time when we as black women had a beauty found in no other race.  We also realized we did not have to live up to the concept of white beauty we say on TV and on magazine covers.  We were black by God, we were proud of it!

We embraced our African roots and our beauty as God given, and we were OK with it.  It was also a time when any self-respecting black American had a glow in the dark poster of a naked black man and woman with afros embracing, on their bedroom or living room wall!

It is good to know that a new generation of my brothers and sisters are finding the beauty and uniqueness of our hair!  You do not have to go natural, but if you choose it as an option, enjoy it and don't worry about what others think!

I don't really think most other people have any issues with our hair when our hair is natural.  Some girls/women have issues with their own hair when it's natural.  I think THAT's the thing that some girls/women may need to overcome sometimes; but they're the ones - not us, not "other people" - who have to figure out how how to overcome whatever they need to overcome about having their hair natural.  hmm

My last perm was Sept 2010 and I believe when you are confident, which is shown in your walk not your words, questions won't bother you. There are all kinds of people with all kinds of motives, some rude (which I kindly ignore) and some who just are curious...and I'd rather they ask than assume. I do not mind sharing how much I love my hair! And at the end of the day... their opinions do not change my life. My family loves me and so do I. smile

Thanks to all that voiced their opinions.  I don't have a problem with my hair but other people are so uneducated about it.  I have been to several countries and they always wanting to put their hands in our hair.  I'm talking about me and my daughter.

I lived overseas for years. The trick is to master "the look" that says "oh no you don't". Surprisingly, due to the number of American bases overseas, some of my best hairdressers were European women who came to the states to learn how to care for Black hair.

Oh yes! That look can be very effective. My look for when I lived in France was more of a 'Don't even think about it!'
