When I write a Hub about a favorite recipe, I like to actually make the dish, and take photos as I go along.  I'm wondering if I'm including too many photos. Is there any formula, i.e. words to photos?  What is your opinion?  Thanks.

    Hey Mary,

You can have too many photos, on in regards to how you post them on the hub. The formatting of your hub should be nicely done and flow according to the content. That means you should use the photo capsule setting best appropriate for the content on the page.

Example: You can post just one photo in one capsule or you can post multiple photos in one capsule.

Posting only one photo in a capsule will take up a lot of space.

Posting more than one photo per capsule can possibly take up more space, but it depends on the setting of the capsule depends on whether or not it takes up a little more space per capsule or a lot. You can use the option which provides a reader to click on photos to see the photos of the capsule. Play with the settings more and you'll see what I mean.

I have a few "how to" hubs with too many photos to display well.  They are all detailed pics of the work being done, similar to yours I suspect, and add a great deal to the hub.

My solution was to make a capsule with a dozen or so photos, but display them in thumbnail style; readers click the particular one they want to see enlarged.  This improves the appearance of the hub (at least in my opinion) while still giving the reader wanting to see details of the work a chance to do so.

It allows me to put 15 or 20 photos on a 1000 word hub without turning it into nothing but photos.

Using all the tools within our toolbox is important. I remember Paul Edmonson suggesting the thumbnail view and have never forgotten that.

I love photos and probably spend too much time with them and give them too much space. I am trying to be more prudent and use the thumbnail tool more often.

Great question and a great help to make us all better writers.

Thanks for you input.  I just read some good Hubs on using photos, and I learned a lot.  I went back and edited the one I did when I baked a Texas Sheet Cake and rearranged my photos.  They look a lot better now.  I learn something new every day here.

I'm wondering if there is an ideal range for the number of photos in a photo gallery lens. 10-20? 20-30? Just wondering.
