Power to the People

A select group of Hubbers (perhaps chosen by their Peers, or the Hubpages Elite) should have a little more power than the rest of us. When flagging it can take a day or two (due to the backlog) for an entry or a 'user' to be removed.

These 'special' users should be able to 'temporarily' remove content immediately pending review - as an example, there's a spammer on the forums - this type of entry is obviously going to be removed, so therefore some Hubber should be able to remove it now!!!!

I agree with you SimeyC. I think it should extend to flagging of hubs with copied or spun content.

I think once a hub is flagged this group of people will immediately check and un-publish that hub.

Great SimeyC. You just said what I had in my mind for a long time. Let's see if HubPages takes this suggestion seriously, or not. To beat sockpuppets, or spammers, or psychopaths - we need people, and not a new software.

    Great suggestion!!

One thing- those people must be chosen very wisely. I have seen online moderators being just egoists, and not rational; and I have seen content and people being banned, just because they went over the head of the moderator. Fools do not like smart people. This is a proven psychology. Having no moderator is often better than having a bad moderator.

I do not know how those people will be selected! Tough job...

Well you have something like a three strike rule - three 'obviously' wrong 'flags' and they no longer have the privelege of having the 'power'....

I guess it's going to be very difficult to really implement something like this as it is going to be impossible to satisfy everyone with the choices.

Take out the 'obviously', please.  If these special people are only going to shut down obviously wrong posts, then there should be mistakes at all.  Anything just slightly out of line should simply be flagged for moderators.

Three 'flags' on something that shouldn't be flagged at all and it's obvious that the 'flagger' doesn't understand their task.

True!!! But the problem trying to get 'more power' to the people, is that there will always be someone who says 'Why did you pick that person?, they are biased'.

Perhaps have these people as 'anonymous'? Perhaps there are already some Hub-Elite that DO have the power....

I'm just trying to find a way of removing the junk quickly and efficiently - there are only so many moderators to go around and it can take a while to remove garbage...

I like this  three strike rule - that will force them to think before banning 'anyone' or 'anything'. Clever thought!

I feel a great many members of this website will love when they find that they are secured in their psychology - that is - no one will hurt them in the forums. I can quote too many people who said just what we are talking here. It's not about satisfaction - it's about detection - and there is a place where everyone can see the Objectivity of the matter.

We just need moderators who can make that see.

You know HP proposed the same thing months and months back, they may even have implemented it. It would be hard to tell as there would be no reason to tell anyone about it.

Somewhere I picked up the idea that if your flags are consistently on posts that end up being moderated then your flags will receive quicker attention than those from someone that flags things that turn out to be all right.

I couldn't tell you where I got that, and it may not have any truth at all.  Or it could be what you are talking about.

that was the conversation I read also ... so it could have been implemented.

It was around the time that sneaker spammers would have the entire front page filled with nike spam posts to chinese wholesale sites in the wee hours of the morning

@sunforged-  You know HP proposed the same thing months and months back, they may even have implemented it.

What made HubPages not implement that? ...I am curious

And, what makes you think HP hasn't implemented, just not told anyone or who has the power to do so. wink

you see, even the user may not know they "have the power" ... that would be the best way, wouldnt it?

Cagsilposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Agreed, it would be best that the user doesn't know they have the ability, then there's less chance for abuse of power. wink

It looks like you deleted a Hub after it was moderated.  In future, please post such problems in a new thread, rather than hijacking someone else's on a different topic.
