Where are the loud protesters for freedom and human rights then ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I have put up with torrents of abuse and criticism about exactly these issues because I happen to live in China - now they are so clearly in your own back yard where are those abusive ignorant people who are wrong in their ignorance of most things BUT NOT THIS ONE - freedom of speech and human rights are all that stands between you and some form of slavery - where are you now ???

The site is down, but I will readily admit that this being a conspiracy website, actually marketing itself as a conspiracy website, doesn't lend much credence. Do you have anything from a real source? I think the OWS movement has gotten horrible press, little coverage, and ridiculous misrepresentations, but I assumed it was because it was bad for business and business owns the news.

3 hours and not one defender of human rights and freedom of speech cares to reply ?

I was working, it was 7.30am, stopped for breakfast now. It was obvious that this was going to happen. Freedom of speech is a myth, it's a term that, if used enough times Govts believe they can convince us we actually have . Did you know that in the UK, youth workers have now been asked to spy on the kids they work with? Interception of social media, such as FB and Twitter are fair game now because of the "riots".  And, just watch for those water cannons, wouldn't be surprised at all if they emerge during the next wave of demonstrations.

You are right - but this has been going on for a long time.  All telephone conversations are recorded and run through computers for key words, emails etc also.  I know this is so because I have seen it in action.

There has been plenty of TV, newspaper and YouTube coverage in the US of the OWS demonstrations and encampments and police brutality.

Maybe your local news stations are reporting the news Ralph, BUT the national TV channels ABC,CBS, NBC are not saying much in their evening programs and very little during the day. If anything, they are trying to present the movement as being a traffic nuisance
OWS is an international major event, but it got less coverage than the Michel Jockson trial.

Competition? You have no competition; games over..Americas a dead fish, belly up, floating in the south china sea. You win... in just a few days the debt will reach 15 trillion and a couple weeks later it'll surpass 100% of GDP and its all downhill from there. Time to let your currency appreciate and live the high life. <<<(best Chinese voice possible) His names Guan Yu and he's fightin fer yer freeedom !>>>

Compared to which countries? Sounds a bit over the top to me. Are you afraid Big Brother is watching???

I am not afraid that it might be so, I know it is !  I have no doubt that my mail, all my online stuff is monitored by China and every other country it passes through.  I have witnessed myself the collection of phone conversations and their scanning for 'key' words - and that was for the UK and the US outside of both countries.

This, however, is about the absence of news in the mainstream media.  There is plenty of blog activity and other low volume media activity but the main news is only showing the protests when something happens that makes them look bad in general, destructive, dirty or dangerous. The student protests in the UK have been heavily policed with the police publicly stating they are ready to use rubber bullets and gas - before it has even happened.  The discussion of why the students are marching hardly appears.

Sooner or later people will have to wake up and take their government from those that do not know how to govern. Every effort is being made by those in Gov and big corps to shut the OWS movement and others.

Unfortunately until something really tragic happens people will not do what must be done. Lets just hope that cooler heads prevail and those that can actually do something for the good of the country

And contrary to what the media is "reporting" or rather "not reporting" the OWS movement is till going strong along the nation & world.......

We have OWS protesters in my country NZ, and most people think they are a joke. Police have refused to enforce tresspass notices, citing the right to protest. What are they protesting against, that some people are rich? Or that they, themselves don't have high paying jobs? Why didn't they protest 10 years ago, when things were good? Some people were struggling then as well. I wonder what people in some 3rd world countries think about people complaining that they can only afford a big mac once a month.

Most of our misfortune is caused by our poor decisions. Not finishing high school, not starting a business, or advancing a career. All are choices we make.

Want to change your life? Make some good decisions, and I am someone that has made MANY bad decisions.

Want to change the world? Stand for congress, or join a religious movement, like Greenpeace, which, by the way, has been denied charitable status here because it is a political movement. And here, we have a party that wants to tax the rich. We call that an envy tax.

That phrase was coined by our special bitch queen maggot thatcher when she stripped the UK of most small businesses and made all her rich pals double rich overnight.  Get with the programme buddy !  You cannot change anything through the 'normal channels' you cannot get into politics without putting yourself up the rectum of the local fat cat and joining a flag waggling operation will get you nowhere except bombed in a NZ harbour by agents of the right wing.

I thought the USA had a free speech Constitutional Amendment about freedom of expression so the Government cannot normally censor news?

wixorposted 12 years agoin reply to this

I don't even need to research the issue to know there is more to this story. The Government is censoring news? What are they actually censoring? I would say an even bigger news story than the Old World Socialist movement would be news censorship by the government. Please.

It's the same issue. The rioters in the UK were criminals. Stealing videos and flat screen TV's, not food, or basics. Surely anything that can be done to prevent similar criminality MAY be justified.

The time honored practice that would prevent looting has long since been abandoned as we have pretended to become more civilized.  In times when we respected each other and each other's property looters were shot.  Perhaps a return to that practice would restore some civility and decency to protests and result in a more reasonable airing of grievances rather than acquiring a new television for the family room.
