I was at home, in the middle of a year fighting cancer. I found out from the newspaper at the door the next morning.

I was in a B&B with my ex somewhere in England. He turned on the TV to see if there was anything worth watching and they were going on about it. I don't know if it was on the day itself, because neither of us were interested in the story so we turned the TV off again.

Obviously someone does. You seem to care enough to comment for example.

This is the not the kind of subject I would usually comment on, but due to the question I had to relate my experience.

On the day Princess Diana died I was actually in a tiny B&B about 50 miles south of Paris!  I was only 16 at the time and was on holiday with my family.  We came down to breakfast and all the French guests were in tears.  The owner of the B&B came upto us and told us he had terrible news for us.  We were obviously quite shocked, when he told us it was Diana who had died, I couldn't believe it.  It wasn't the shock news of her death, it was the reaction of the French people at the B&B.

Obvuoulsy it was a very sad thing to happen but for myself, a sixteen year old boy, it was just a nice lady who had died.  People die everyday so I wasn't overly bothered at the time.  We had to sit and eat breakfast with all the sad French people and they all offered their condolences, was very bizarre.

I don't know where I was. I guess it's a British thing, like Kennedy was for our parents here in America.

I remember exactly where I was when Lady Di died. Also when john Lennon Died. Freddy Mercury too. And just to show my age, I also remember where I was when JFK was shot.

At that time, I was working a six day week and had forgotten to switch my alarm off the night before (it being Saturday night) and me having had a few beers. The alarm went off to the sound of BBC Radio 2 news headlines at 7am and (hungover in the extreme) I heard the tragic news. At first I thought it wasn't real...

I cared then, care now...I was at home and staying up late ...stayed up all nite watching the coverage on the tellie. That event took a young woman from us far too soon...someone who touched millions of lives..

My immediate thoughts were with her sons. My daughter was only four months old at the time, and what really upset me, was how those two young boys were feeling.

I remember it being a Sunday morning, as well. Also my only day off at the time. I remember waking up and putting the portable TV on my room and hearing the news. I couldn't believe it either.

Great question! For us in Canada, a Commonwealth country, it was a very big deal. I remember most people I knew were deeply affected by it.

I was at work, doing paste-up, when one of the guys I had been working with said, "did you hear about Princess Diana? Something happened to her." We asked him what was going on, and then listened to the radio as we worked. The announcer said she had died in a car crash. I had been so busy getting to work, I hadn't heard about it yet.

I was sitting on my stairs with my house in a state of disarray as we were stripping and varnishing the wood floors in our new house (we moved in about 2 weeks before). My mum told me about it on the phone because I hadn't listened to the radio or TV - couldn't believe it.

It's very weird how you can always recall what you were doing during certain moments in history. It's like a moment caught in time.

I was at home, in bed, when my Husband (now deceased himself), woke me up to tell me the news. I immediately found myself wide awake, and went downstairs to watch the news footage. I was so shocked, and what a tragic way to die. She made a difference to so many people's lives, and this should never be forgotten. She was a role model to all, and this is why it was so much of a tragedy. I know that although I didn't expect to feel it so deeply, it effected me to a degree only comparable to 9/11, (although 9/11 was worse for me due to the sheer circumstances and number of lives lost).

I was hurriedly getting ready to go to a concert. My husband, who was listening to the news while waiting for me, told me. I thought he said, "a lady died in an accident." I thought that was sad but didn't realize it was Princess Diana until later on. Horrible news! It was the same weekend my mom told me she had been diagnosed w/ breast cancer.
