They are horrible for web hosting.  Most use them to purchase domain name only.  There are some good free website companies such as Weebly which I love because of the drop and drag HTML feature.  Just copy and past the HTML code into it and away you go. Plus alot of other features, You get 2 free websites or blogs, but you can also add pages and blogs to the site.

Hostgator are who most people use, (inc myself) even if they buy their Domain Name through Go Daddy.

most people I know register domain name with Go Daddy, while Hostgator is favorite and has been for several years that I am aware of for hosting.

Only thing is sites with weebly, it is better for them to host if we pay for it, otherwise  it is our problem if there are problems with the site.  Domain name makes no difference as to who you get it, so get the most for money.

Host gator allows you to have wordpress and it is already built in their system which stops all of the downloading problems if you do it on your own.  People seem to love Host Gator.

If you are going to run a REAL website - that is, a site where you can control absolutely everything from your choice of which Linux operating system to the webserver software itself and on up through any CMS you desire, I STRONGLY recommend  http://linode.com

I use freehosting.c0m for my client's at present, I have about five sites of my own hosted there and 4 work ones. They have a wide selection of URL extensions as well.

I used to use Godaddy for domain registration - but now I don't even use them for that.

Namecheap gives you free WHOIS privacy for a year and after that it's only a couple of dollars - way cheaper than Godaddy.

I have used Go Daddy and it was down more than up, and I mean down, down, down.  This is probably one of the worst for hosting.

I'm a Weebly fan but buy my domain names at GoDaddy.

I also use GoDaddy for domain name only, but not for web hosting. I actually just used blogger for the site, since I was familiar with it and didn't need anything fancy. You can link a blog to your own domain if you don't need anything super functional.

I also bought my domains at GoDaddy and hosting through Hostgator (except blogs and hubs, which are obviously free)
