Is getting page 2 on google any good for hits

   Some of my hubs have moved up to page 2 on google. Of course I am pleased that they have moved up from a more obscure page 4 or 5. But am I likely to get page 1 eventually. Or will my failure to understand backlinking etc halt any further progress?

            SJ I'm in the same boat All my hubs each and everyone of them is on the 2nd page. I do get some views. 5% of the views for a particular keyword but I'm moving up slowly and have now reached position 11 for a particular keyword and rank 32 for another totally high competition keyword (hoping to reach at least the 2nd page then that 5% will turn out to bring me at least 1k views a day - all hopes )

   There isn't much to understand about backlinking. A backlink is a link to one of your pages/sites, on someone else's page/site. That's it. Getting people to put a link to your site on their site is the hard part, but it is possible.

   Whether page 2 is likely to do you any good or not is wholly dependant upon the nature and subject of the search criteria and the quality of the entries above you.
   
   I use Google regularly - as I am sure do most others reading this - not to check the position of my own work but in the quest for information. Very often, I click on entry number one, think to myself, "Complete and utter crap," and click the back button. I go to numbers two, three, four and more with the same result. I regularly consult up to pages four or five before I find information of remotely acceptable quality.
   
   Backlinking is a separate issue alogether and is a more inexact science than palm reading. I have sites which have known huge success with strenuous efforts made in this respect and others which have surpassed them tenfold with no effort put in whatsoever.

      Thanks, that explains a lot. I wondered why I was getting clicks. So some people don't like page 1.

         It's not that they don't like it. It just often doesn't supply them with the information they are looking for on that particular occasion.

   Congratulations that your Hubs are moving from page 4 to page 2 in the SERPs.  That means that they are upwardly mobile and moving in the right direction.
   
   Fact is, over 80% of the traffic from a Google search goes to the number one search result.  Die hard researchers will keep searching the results until they have accumulated all the information they want.
   
   Incoming links to your Hubs are important, but more important is presenting the best information in answer to the search query.  So, look at all of the search results and compare the information you provide compared with the results that outrank you.  Adjust your Hub as needed! 
   
   I uploaded a Hub (http://tinyurl.com/ckquggg) on November 26th that now ranks #1 on my prime keyword in the UK, #4 in the US and #3 for the rest of the world.  So, it can be done quickly.  I do think that backlinks with your keyword as the anchor text also helps a lot.

      Thanks writer fox. I didn't realise nubber 1 on google would give 80% of traffic.Adjusting my hubs will be my New Year resolution.
